I love those wheels, had them on a Mach 1, 69 Cougar and my 442 has the same wheel with rocket center caps. I have never seen them used on a custom or hot rod. I started at that ford for quite a while trying to come up with a judgement call.

I guess they feel a bit awkward because it has wide whites it feels 1950s but the wheels wouldn’t exist until late 60’s. But I like the Ford wheels on a Ford. Then again would I like Camaro rally wheels on a 57 Chevy with white walls? I don’t see that.

I love car shows for this reason, everyone has different tastes and different styles that we don’t get exposed to off your only on the HAMB

I'd say the same thing if I saw your roadster with the hood and door open.;) lately I've been asking people if they would shut the hood so I can get a better photo and so far they have.

Funny you said that, I always struggle with opening the hood to show off the blown flatty and the doors to expose a ton of detailing. Saturday I had it open so everyone could check out the car, Sunday I left it closed. A couple of builders that I talked to the day before came up on Sunday and said how much more they liked the car with the hood closed.

Same thing on the rag top, I left it up all weekend because of the rain and it changes the look of the car. Top up; you see the tan top and it has an attitude from that chop. Top down it is welcoming and playful. I never know how I am going to display it next.

The wife's truck is nicer looking hood down (by far!) but the HEMI is where it's at. I had a group of car club guys (matching club tees) walk up to the truck while the hood was down. "small block?" they asked. I opened the hood and they all voted for the truck. They said "leave the hood open man!"

I remember reading an article written by an event photographer stating words to the effect that keep your hood closed if you’re hoping to get your car in the event coverage of most publications. IMO all cars photograph better with the hood closed.

If you're Jones'n for plastic trophy points better leave the hood open, can't be judged if the judges can't see it.

    Thats intersting. Mental note made.

They werent plastic, they were chrome!

You are welcome. It gives me something to do when I'm at thses events. I have a back issue that is causing a lot of siatica pain. So you walk an hour or two taking pictures of the HAMB friendlies, pop a squat and upload some shots. Suck down a diet coke and a Vicodin and repeat the process. I definately got my steps in this weekend.

Depends on the car but I'll say that if you don't have an interesting enough engine that is a feature point of the build leave the hood closed. If your engine compartment isn't spotless and detailed leave the hood closed. Remembering that I walked up to a mid 50's Chrysler sedan at a local event a couple of years ago that was a car wash trip and vaccum out job from having the barn find look of a car about four spaces down that had dirt and bird poop and all on it. The Chrysler did have a hemi but it was covered with a half inch of oil, grease and dirt.
I've never not taken a photo of an interesting car at an event because the hood was open. Interesting cars get at least one photo taken unless you have set up camp in front of the car and or have trash laying around it. Drink cup sitting on the running board =no photo. Mess around it = no photo. Looks just like three that I saw on used car lots on Auto Row on the way in to town,=no photo. If I am feeling good at an event with under 200 cars every car may get at least one photo just because I felt good but the hot rod or custom or AD truck next to it may get a dozen or more.

Over 30 years of going to shows with the 48 and my old 51 Merc I have had the hood open at a rod trot one time and that was at a judged show where it was a requirement of the show. The only truck on the grounds that didn't have the hood open was the Rod and Custom dream truck because it was display only and has never been shown in competiton. I've opened the hood for a lot of folks but the engine was just an engine that was not exciting enough in my book to show off.

On the other hand I have taken a lot of photos of Billy's roadster over the years and as nice and perfect as the rest of the car is, that engine is a main feature that people remember. It's one you could expect to see in some famous big time collectors special display room on a display stand let alone in a hot rod that got driven in the rain or on wet streets in Long Beach Wa or in 107++ degrees in Pendleton and he had a pretty good jaunt from the rodeo grounds parking lot to where his camp was.

Super cool Corvette gasser with a Lenco. Lot's like a blast to drive.

What the hell is lumbago anyway?

I think it is an old term referring to lower back pain. I have heard it in old movies. I'm bringing it "back".
