To The End Of The World! Aptly named as this end of summer event is about as far west as you can drive in the continental US, the Longbeach penninsula in Washington state. For 40 years the Beach Barons CC has hosted an incredible multi day event that sort of marks the end of our car season and the beginning of the wet stuff. I’ll be headed down Friday, got my normal camping spot reserved and friends lined up to share it with. And of course, I will be posting photos of the cars worthy to be considered HAMB friendly…At least in my opinion. There is a great show and shine on Saturday and nightly cruises where the number of spectators rivals the number of vehicles. It is open to everything, and I mean everything! I always look forward to this one…well except for the year I got fined $550 for a burn out in the 442. They bring in a ton of cops from all over the state to serve and protect. Grab a chair, stake out a bit of curb and count the cuff and stuffs. Fun gets under way this Friday evening. Anyone going?
The 40 and the Model A aren't ready so If I go it will be Saturday morning and return that evening. Took the jeep last year and probably the off topic truck this year. Looking forward to the swap meet. The cruise thru town is crazy, takes about 10 minutes to go 5 feet. Finally got to the beach entrance about midnight and decided to go along the shoreline for a few miles and back again. Pretty easy traveling in the sand with 12" tires. About 200 yards from the beach entrance was a big white limo buried up to the doors in the soft sand. About 7-10 people were outside and they all waved and yelled to me as I drove by. Nice, friendly folks and I waved back. Told a cop near the entrance and he said it happens about 50 times a night.
Beach driving odd awesome. I wish they would add aTROG style event on Friday. I’d have to extend my stay. Two years ago I drove the roadster to rod run, the trip through town and past the LBT took over an hour. Thought fit sure my Flathead would boil over but she just purred along. Love popping a squat on the curb near Jake’s Museum and watching the show. I will endeavor to make it so.
It's been 40 something years since we have been to that one. From back when they gave you one piece of a monster dash plaque at each poker run stop. The big one shown in this one when I played lowrider and took my dash plaque board for show and tell At Spokane. I think we towed the trailer down there because I don't remember getting wet in the tent and it rained all weekend.
@Mr48chev I don’t have 40 of them but I bet there are 10 years worth of dash plaques on the inside the deck lid on my olds. And it earned every one…550 times over.
The last time we went, we were disappointed by the lifted Brodozers and tunerz that had infiltrated the evening cruise.
Amen Spooky! Like I said above, the street is public and everything goes. Monster trucks, golf carts, hot rods, customs, bikes, quads, dune buggy’s, bro trucks, coal rollers, Carolina crouchers, donks, dinks and ducks (amphibious ducks). The Saturday show at the old air field is more subdued and the swap meet is always a focal point. Music, eats, apparel and bevs in the cooler.
You sir should be a hot rod "reporter", I really enjoy your comments, they put a smile on my mug ever time I read them!
Yes, there are large lots and helpful people in yellow vests anxiously waiting for your money Always good to plan ahead. I out an extra bottle of Crown in the trailer, you just never know. Then grab a cold one and enjoy the show. Complete coverage begins Friday!
The extra Crown Royal is a good idea..... You could always just sit and drink and observe the pandemonium, then surf your way to higher ground!
My wife apparently could never remember back a year because every year she'd see that sign and go "do they get Tsunamis here".
Prelims. I hate hitting the road in a dirty rig. Since it odd supposed to be 100 degrees here today, an early morning run up to the coin op spray wash and check the air in the tires. And no trailer Queen comments, this in my home for the weekend. Heat/AC/110…it’s like the Marriott if they let you bring your car into the room. Filled the tank, starting the loading procedure. Gotta stop for firewood somewhere. I need to make a list.
100 degrees at the coast and @Bandit Billy will probably be walking around in a raincoat asking if anybody wants to see his clam neck! DO NOT BE FOOLED! Run Forest RUN!!!
No, it's 100 degrees in Battle Ground today, the beach is like 84 today and the high tomorrow is like 70. Perfect beach weather! And that means there are going to be thousands of people out there. A few years ago it was 90 at the beach and no breeze. It was unbearable. This year looks a lot cooler.
As I was strapping the truck down I heard a familiar song playing in my head. West Bound and Down, Loaded up and Truckin That’s a big 10-4 good buddies
Pretty easy to get here from Vancouver, Wa. Just follow the big, blue river all the way to the coast like Lewis and Clark did. First stop is the fairgrounds to stake out your spot for tomorrow. and collect your swag bag, buy a tee shirt, They even had a nice publication listing the weekends events. next up, crack the Slo Pok’s Alley Night up the road. Always good burgers, good chats and good ol boys.
The Pacific NW is about the most scenic place I've ever been. I love that country. You guys have got it made!
It’s pretty here but that makes it spendy. I haven’t cell service at the camp site so here it’s last nights BBQ with the Slo Poks. They drive some cool shit, this is Pete’s.
