I see another attempt at a hot rod print magazine. Rod And Style is currently taking advance orders for a little pages size magazine. $7.00 plus the ride. Says the first issue will ship early Feb.
Courtesy of a Google search, a link: https://rodandstyle.com/ I'm not ready to gamble on another magazine... Russ
Wish them the best, but this ol' dude doesn't pre-order anything. If you want me to finance your business attempt, I am either going to lose my investment or I'm going to reap a portion of the profits, not just get the product if you pull it off. This along with renting or purchasing a license is the modern business trend that is stripping the consumer of their rights of ownership. https://www.howtogeek.com/817070/your-digital-movies-will-not-last-forever-and-sony-just-proved-it/ "Sony said on the German PlayStation site (translated), "due to our evolving licensing agreements with content providers, you will no longer be able to view your previously purchased Studio C**** content and it will be removed from your video library. We greatly appreciate your continued support."
A new magazine, and it gets my money to see how things work out. Just the other day people were ******* and moaning about 2 more magazines stopping production. This is what I do to help the new guys out. Give them a chance. They have invested, time, effort, and money to get this far. If they make it, good for them, and us. If they don't make it, at least they tried, and I supported them from the beginning. Put your money where your mouth is.
I'm always willing to help a startup. Lots of people showed their faith in me when I started my ch***is business in the 80's. Sending a complete stranger in the middle of nowhere running an ad in Street Rodder and Rod And Custom $4-5000 dollars took a lot of faith. I just sent this guy $11, worth a chance.
I haven't had a magazine (other than for my guns) since my wife threw out the family *******s dad left me. It is still too painful to speak of.
They have decided to create a new product. If they were serious business people, they would have done a business plan including timeline, external costs and ROI, then get funding to get to the point where it at least brought in revenue, if not profit. It is not there yet. The runner that fails to reach the finish line and wants you to carry them across is not a role model. This is another solo go fund me. BTW, I bought a copy of an indie mag at SEMA and paid for a sub. I would pay for continued RJ issues and a sub. This is not about kicking a startup like Krylon, it's about selling vaporware.
I'd like to see those. Good enuf for grade-school, jr & reg high school? For Arts' sake, articles, & anatomy education? . Marcus...
I agree that new ventures need support. not easy when you see other well known ***les fail. yep, shipping charges raise the price of most everything
Let me see if I got this right? You expect the man to publish/print his magazine and sell it and ship it for seven bucks. Been to the post office lately?
Shipping costs are getting more expensive all the time. You shouldn't expect someone selling their magazine for $ 7.00 to eat the cost of shipping, too. At least they give you the option of how you want it shipped, and you pay accordingly. Krylon 32 tells you how it is, too.
IMHO; Every magazine that I have ever subscribed to, the mailing is included in the cost of the subscription. I love magazines for multiple reasons & want to support & see them continue, but It kind of makes it hard to justify the current magazine costs when you add $5.00 + for shipping for each issue. It would make more sense to charge say $8.00 per issue including mailing, spread out across all the subscriptions. Companys such as magazine & printing company's get a cheaper bulk mailing rate from USPS that they absorb in the subscription charge. I hope that it works out for them & I would consider subscribing in the future if their rates become adjusted to include mailing at a more reasonable cost.
The lowest coat of shipping the magazine is $ 4.66, if you want to split hairs. You want them to absorb $ 3.66 of shipping cost if they sold the magazine for $ 8.00. At that cost it does not seem feasible to publish the magazine at all. How many people drink beer, and then just piss it out after a while. Do they complain about the cost then ? After that you may have some self satisfaction after having your beer. I would rather have the self satisfaction knowing that I helped a new magazine get started. Did you complain when Ryan started the H.A.M.B. ? He invested time and money to get started, and still does today. Be thankful that some people are willing to try.
For example only, In the Garage Media magazine’s are $40 a year subscription. Cover price is $8.95 if you don’t subscribe.
Publishers like In the Garage Media cover their costs with high priced ads, that's how they can sell a years subscription for $40. When I was going full bore in the ch***is business I had a 1/6th page ad in Street Rodder and Rod And Custom and my monthly cost for those 2 ads was $1200. I was small potatoes to those guys but that's how they paid the bills, it dam sure wasn't with yearly subscriptions plus back then postage was about half of what it is now. Talk to the guys that do the Hop Up annual, it isn't to make a lot of money for them it's a labor of love for the hot rod world. Those guys all have other careers and do the Hop Up on the side.
I agree completely and I'm thankful that there are many who subscribe here and become Alliance Members to help Ryan continue this site.
I'm in if they do like Hop up does and bill you for each issue. Automatic billing to your credit card or Paypal that happens right around shipping time. No worries about paying for a year or two subscription and then having them go out of business. I'll add it to my collection of volume 1 #1 issues.
Look closer at the site. If you buy 15 issues there's no shipping added. You could sell the 14 you don't read and you'll have most of your money back. Or you could give them to friends or young guys and inspire them to build some cars. I didn't realize so many people were $10-11 away from being completely broke.
Why did I immediately go to Al Bundy when I read your comment. You win the internet for the day. Thanks for the laugh.
I can understand everybody's hesitation with the "magazine apocalypse" that has happened over the last 15 years I am one of those people that are hesitant and I will also wait until it is officially published but I will certainly buy it at that point. What people could do (and I highly recommend it) because I have been subscribed to their channel "Rod & Style" on YouTube for probably a couple of years now since I discovered them. You could go and watch all their videos every view helps them pay the bills so to speak. They have excellent content with excellent production quality it's not like me holding my cell phone switching between landscape and portrait. They have a car build called the Blue Martian that has been a pretty neat build and definitely worth the watch not to mention they covered the Flabob airport TROG event and a bunch of other HAMB friendly things. They have a great channel if their magazine makes it to production I would imagine it will be excellent. https://youtube.com/@RodandStyleTV?si=YBGC7rSlye2U3EAO What I am shocked about I would imagine the guy whoever he is or the team of people that are doing the magazine would be frequent visitors to this website but this is the first time I've heard about this magazine.
I’m in,the last time my wife and I went out for dinner my gl*** of single malt was $15.00, pretty sure reading this mag will take me longer to read than it took me to enjoy that ****tail.
Guns, **** women (and hotrods)! ‘Merica, baby! Apologies for the derail. Now back to your regularly scheduled program.
