Rodder's Digest

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SamIyam, Dec 14, 2003.

  1. Just stopped by the liquer store and picked up a copy... and all I have to say is "Hot Damn!".

It was like rolling the clock back a few years... I thumbed through it... then went back and started reading... damn, this is some good shit... no rusty clapped out rat rods that are making a statement by scraping the ground, no scenester shit, no cars by the big name builders that you see in every other mag... just a fresh look at hot rodding. I like clean, "real", hot rods and ingenuity... both of which seem to be the focus of RD...

Now hopefully they can keep the aftermarket stuff in the adds, where it is supposed to be... for me, technical editors shouldn't be parts bolter-on'ers... I know they plugged Ron Francis and Alan Grove in this first issue... but they also had a home brewed spreader bar tech article... which balanced it out... I guess...
    Sam.

When I received my gen-yoo-wine autographed copy from Denise, [Thanks a million Denise...cash on it's way] I went back in time as well. It got added to my almost-complete collection of R.D.'s. What a treat. Now, if they just don't fuck it up. We've already got a slew of magazines that illustrate how to bolt on your new billet plastic cup holder from Ronco. Those magazines are more like a collection of printed infomercials than a real-live rod magazine. Welcome back, R.D.

Looks like I was wrong when I said I wouldn't have anything to due with the new RD as long as it was published by Buckaroo. Saw the first issue and bought it because it was like looking at the original. Good content and I hope they continue to let Burger handle it without iterference. If they do it'll be a welcome addition to the few mags I get.

Same here... I can't find it anywhere! Barnes and Noble still has the last issue...

  7. I also thought it was a pretty good first shot out of the box. Liked the home brew stuff in particular. Hope they can stay focused.

Unfortunately it will only be published every other month.

Too bad some of the other magazines aren't every other month,
it might give them more time to do something decent. [IMG]

I'll buy the second issue... and the third if it keeps on the same level as number one.. I buy alot of car mags and I have found that the two other Buckaroo platforms have been loosing out lately (used to buy them both at first, then the Superrod went to the side and now SR builder is sliding off my preferred subscription list and going to a if I like it newstand pick up..)

It took me 2 weeks to find a copy up here in the great white Northeast but I finally did find it. I totally agree about it bringing back good old memories. The Ideas I had gotten from the mag were the best. I got another which may cause some more cutting and welding on what I though was the finished mods to my ride. A hot rod is never really done. I agree with all of you that the return of Rodder's Digest is good reading, it's good for the hobby, it's good for the traditional enthusiast's. I don't know anything about publishing a magazine but I figure it's tough to do a magazine with alot of "how-to" articles. You seldom see "how-to" features anymore. I'm sure the pressure from the advertisers to push their bolt on googies is extreme and they (the advertisers) probably aren't keen on folks figuring out how to do it themselves. The teck articles are great. I hope they can keep it up. Neat spreaderbar idea's. Sam

The Reason RD is sold out is because theres a Delaware car on the cover..Maybe not. Lane Anderson is my friend. He made me say that [IMG]

I can't seem to find one around here anywhere! But, I have an unread copy of Ol Skool Rodz (premier issue) that I would be willing to trade for same condition 1st (re)issue of Rodder's Digest. Any takers?

Donzie, If you would have shown on Saturday you might have been able to talk me out of an extra copy that I had lying around the house here. Might have even been able to convince me to autograph it [IMG]
