Anybody know when TRJ #25 is going out? Seems like it's been 5 months since I got the last issue, and I'm getting antsy...
I just bought it at Joe Reath's Speed Shop. I asked him what he was up to and he said up to his**** in building Hemi's and flatheads... Then he said he had a story to tell if I had time and offered me a chair... It was about a guy who faild tech inspection at Lions because no*****tershield so he made one out of a sheet of tin, a piece of card board and some black paint. passed the "magnet test" and looked thck enough by flashlight inspection so he raced it al over the area for near a year. Then one day he pulled up in front of Joes shop with the car on the trailer with no windshield in it, and a hole in the top of the dash, and a hole in the top of the center hump of the floor. Joe said he bought a real*****ter shield that time. Joe's got a lot of stories. makes a good appendix to TRJ. That's part of why I buy it there instead of at (much closer) Borders. In the Early Times article there's apicture of all their cars in front of a building called "Aircraft Engineering".. My older brother usta work there in the middle-late 60s!!!
Thanx DrJ. The TRJ website still has #24 as the "latest issue." Geez, how come TRJ ships to newstands before it gets to subscribers?
Dr.J, I worked at Aircraft Engineering from '97 until 2000. Right next door to Bill Stroppes place in Paramount. Used to run into Joe Reath at lunch sometimes, too. Wayno

The news stand copies have bar codes on them. Reath's don't. And they get them with both covers too. I got the one with the blown Ardun on the cover! (Can't afford to get both, or all three, now there's a bar code cover too.)
Just got mine today, man those Ardun shots have to make a guy drool! And the Early Times stuff is tough too.
Haha*****ers. Come and live in Australia. I've had mine for two weeks. It's already worn out. One of the best covers ever IMO, even if it's not an entirely original idea. Problem is, now I want an Ardun too!!!
Got mine on Saturday, here's a tease on the cover...a lot of coverage on some guy that tried to make a flathead into an overhead valve engine...
JimA - are you going to be at Father's Day Roadster show? If so, are you gonna be in a booth where we can find you? I've been waiting a loooooong time for a story on the Early Times. I hope the story is just a prelude to a book - say it's so!
Doc... Got mine there as well... I gotta be honest... it looks like Reath may not be able to stay open forever (From what I hear they had to liquidate the machine shop). The retail counter can't be that profitable... Jim, as always, nice article...
Really missed be at the picnic, hopefully I won't be missing any in the future. Bill was a great friend.
Jim, no phone. I'll be in and out of the swap meet at Bob Wilson's booth (Wilson Welding - Brakes and such). I'll help him set up on Friday. Got to get an autographed copy or sumptin.
Jim A, If I can find you on Saturday will you sign my copy of RJ 25 if you would that would be cool.--TV
DEFINITELY! If you guys want to make a time to meet at the Rodder's Journal booth, or leave the info with them after you buy a copy I would be honored to sign one for you. Thanks Jim
Jim, why don't you pick a time, and is the RJ booth inside or outside the fence? Anytime around noon Saturday is fine with me, or what ever time fits best. Just let us know.--TV
Noon on Sat. will be cool. Now who wants to call me to remind me because I don't wear a watch and I'm easily distracted with so many hot rods to look at? Thanks Jim

[/ QUOTE ] Hey Brootal, I know you've probably read the story and it's only because you are too young to understand, but that's not just any old ASRDUn on the cover, THAT engine is the late Tom Senter's Ardun, probably one of if not the most documented copy of that engine and one of the most well known, by those who can remember the old days. On the subject of timing, does anybody know when the R&C book is going to be released? I ordered my copy from TRJ way back in January, got an order number & conformation etc. by return email and haven't heard peep since, despite sending a bunch of emails asking for information and confirmation of delivery date.
Yes Carps, I may be young (compared to you), but I am no fool. Admittedly I am only familiar with the name Tom Senter and not fully versed in his famousness, but I did realise it was a very special engine. You can tell just by looking (and by reading the story).
Good article Mr. Aust. I will buy the book. My favorite photo was the 2 sedans in the river. Kept looking @ photo trying to imagine what would make them drive such nice cars into the river THEN I saw the big Coors truck in the background

[/ QUOTE ] I got an email recently promising that the book would be shipping in mid-July...but then again my wife got a note from them last October saying that it would be shipped by Christmas, so who knows.
Thanks for the compliments on that story- Early Times is my life. There was way crazier stuff than nice cars in the river- that was the PG stuff- you should hear what REALLY happened. Sorry I missed the seventies in some ways!!!
JimA, turns out there wasn't a TRJ booth at the LA Roadster's show. Had to buy a bootleg Canadian printing of the mag and couldn't find you. Dang. Great article though. Met a few ET members and took a thousand plus photos. Maybe next time....
