My subscription was supposed to start with 24 and I bought it and 25 on the stand and I am still waiting for either one. The other cover has Babcock's Merc on it.

JimA, turns out there wasn't a TRJ booth at the LA Roadster's show. Had to buy a bootleg Canadian printing of the mag.

Canadian printing? Never heard of such a thing- all mags are printed in Hong Kong as far as I know. Look forward to swapping E.T. stories some day. I'm hoping to become a member this year if everything works out right.

There are suppossed to be 4 per year published. If #25 is the first one this year and it's almost July and lots of us haven't gotten it yet, how are they ever going to get the other three done this year????????? [IMG]

I just got my #25 yesterday. Awesome issue but damn the timing on these things is horrible.

They come so irregularly that I don't know when the next should arrive and have no idea of when my sub runs out. They could send me a renewal every three isssues and I wouldn't know any better.

$40 per year should get a killer book to the door on time every quarter - but somehow doesn't. If TRJ was anything less than totally awesome I'd cancel in a heartbeat.

The printing for the Canadian Market, not printed in Canada. In the UPC code it says "Canadian 19.95" or something like that. The Custom is on the front and the Ardun is on the back.

I don't think I'm gonna make anothe CA hot rod event untill next year.

Jason, I just bought one at the local Barnes and Noble and it's like that. In fact, the lady behind the cash register tried to charge me the Canadian price.

I think all the newstand copies are like that this time.

If you read Steve*****an's editorial in the Issue #1 you will note that the priority of TRJ is to bring out the best Hot Rod publication with NO COMPROMISES. From memory he says they hope it will be a quarterly publication, but they are not going to compromise on quality to meet some deadline.

I subscribe through Graffiti Publications and they have a setup where they just take the money out of the credit card whenever they ship the magazine. Works good for me and you don't have to shell out a bunch of cash.

Jim, keep it up and some day the book will be done on ET. thanks for inc. my name in the article for taking over greg sharps truck. did i ever tell you what i did with that thing? it went down to the ground and back up first in primer and flat towed my 32 to bonneville and back, drove it as my only car, took it back down again and built camper and painted it white in back yard under the shade tree then used it to tow the drag boat to the river and other places and drive in dates! campers at drive ins were fun! i got pics also using it to go to the mountains with the skis on top in snow, now that i think about it i cant beleave all the stuff we did together. anyway i traded it to rabit [norm samuels] at hot rod city [in whittier] for something ? and a few years later i drove by and it was on the lot again but smacked in the side with the camper half falling off, dont know what happened to it, it was used for a article for installing the possibly first mustang steering box [what a mistake] and eric rickman took pics of it at the starting line a bonn. with my roadster in a bonn article in a hot rod or r&c year book and stewart and east did a article of it at the river in a mag once with my boat in the background. continue on young man!

  13. I'm glad you liked it George. I was REALLY worried that anybody whose car was not pictured in the story would be pissed at me. They had TOTAL control of photo selection and there was NO WAY to get everyone's car into 20 pages. That really helps push the book idea along seeing it in print. Thanks again! Jim

I subscribe direct to The Rodders Journal and have had mine a week. I think the Ardun article is the best ever written from an historical point of view and what can one say about the photos in that article. Then to top it all off is some Steve Stanford renderings. Yup defintely one of the good issues!

TRJ doesn't compromise or rush an issue for damn sure. That "no compromise" part keeps me suscribing.

OK... well maybe he didn't say exactly what I "quoted", but I've just pulled ot #1 and checked it out.

What he did say (and I paraphrase)...

"The Rodder's Journal will be a 132 page quarterly publication that will be almost entirely full colour, utilise oversize pages, award winning design and art direction, quality paper stock and high standards of production." (I fixed the spelling [IMG])

I'm sure a couple of issues in he mentions the "no compromise" credo of TRJ. Let me check...

OK. In the #2 Editorial, Steve does apologise about the delay. He says, "I feel that those of you that chose to support us early on have had to wait entirely too long for this second issue."

He then goes on to say, "...I did make a conscious decision to err on the side of quality rather than on the side of expediency. I felt the most important thing was to keep the quality consistent with the standards we set in Issue #1."

So just be patient because the reason it's late is because Steve and the TRJ team are working their****es off to bring out another awesome book, and you know the next one will ALWAYS be worth the wait. [IMG]

NB: No I don't work for them. (I wish!!!)

I got tired of waiting for my subscription issue to arrive, so I bought a newsstand issue. It has the Merc on the cover -- the back has a 3/4 shot of the Ardun. Of course, my subscription issue arrive a few days later, and this has the overhead shot of the Ardun on the cover.

Is it odd that there are two different Ardun engine shots used for the fronts/backs?

No. TRJ usually do an "A" and a "B" cover, sometimes even a "C". If you look towards the back of the magazine it has all of the back issues with all of the covers displayed.

A full set with all of the different covers would be something. I've just got one of each. [IMG]

  24. I had all the A&B's but gave up the 1-4 B covers in a weak moment to trade for some early Hot Rod magazines. I just recently got one of the last signed Hardbound 1-4 special editions. There were 5 in a stack, they pulled one out and I spotted a number that meant more to me and the let me have it. It was #1066- I was born October of '66- I was pretty stoked!

Did anyone else notice the HAMB (and I think '60s Style?) being mentioned in the small-block Ford article?

Yep, but they spelt it wrong. They wrote Hamb, we all know HAMB is spelt in capitals. [IMG]
