I've been getting them for several years now, but I never leave them on the coffee table. As sson as I get my hands on it, I take it to the garage to read. If I leave it out, either someone will put in a pile of other stuff or the dog will have a tasty snack. If you would like, they will also sell you an hard bound set of 4 for $200. Would make for a nice collector's item, but considering that they are just hard bound editions of the same fine paper issue, I skipped the offer.
It really is a great book. The fact that the people behind it are truly p***ionate about the art, the craft, and the research that go into every issue is truley amazing. They work long hard hours in a compe***ive business to produce something fresh each time and they have achieved the highest honors by the people in the publishing industry. We dont talk about that much here. I've had several chances to meet the folks behind the scenes. They are very dedicated to provide the best they can. Steve ****an truely lives and breaths this. He gave my son a great opportunity to work there. It's not easy to load up your kids car and send him accross the country to work and learn his trade. But I cannot compliment Steve (and others) enough for taking him in, showing him around, teaching him the process, and looking after him as he started out his career path. My son has since parted with TRJ, but the debt of gra***ude is still there....I get sappy thinking about it. TRJ is more than a mag or a coffee table book, it's family.
Jeff gets made cause i like to rip them apart and hang them on the wall, he told me hey that mag is worth $$$$$ and were out of them. F!@#! it! i can look at them all at once on the wall.
Just got my first Issue. As soon as I get done reading my Cole Foster book, Its next. "NOT A MAGAZINE YOU TAKE INTO THE CAMODE WITH YOU!!!!!!!"
i started collecting them quite late...#19 was the first i bought, i then went on the hunt for the earlier ones and found a few but not the real early ones, well not at an affordable price anyway so the wife bought me the 2 hardbound volumes 1 - 4 and 5 - 8...just a few missing now...NUMBER 18 what is it with ****** number 18 i cant get a copy anywhere
Bought number 1,2,3 at Roy Brizios back in the days, and then kept on buying ;-) Its the best one... And i have them all
It is the only mag I leave out when guests are over. It makes me look more well read than I really am.
I would call it a Periodical Based Text Book. I put more time into studying those then all the books in High School combined. I also have these out in the living room. In fact they are the only ones that my Wife does not "clean up" and toss in the office. She even went as far to get an old crate to store them in as decor in our living room.
Thats funny JEPPA, I do that to. It gives my cave an air of sophistication. But really, it's the only book (I wont call it a magazine) that I subscribe to. When you get the best, screw the rest!
Nope, not a joke....I honestly have not had time to read them....I'm not a bathroom reader so they sit on the shelf...I'll get to em....not like I'm not committed and watching *** and the city instead of reading R.J.
Yes definitely got to be the one of the best, start to panic if it;s late especially on this side of the pond!! got em all except No's 2 & 3 (Did buy em once got ripped on ebay) so still looking for those two
Wow! I just wanted to send a quick reply and thank you all for your continued support of TRJ. It is definitely appreciated and the support of the readers helps drive the staff here to reach for new levels of quality, in every issue we produce and in the service we provide. Also, just as an update...TRJ #42 is being printed as we speak and is scheduled to go out to subscribers late in November. Our annual, complimentary subscriber poster will be mailing out in early December. Check out our site soon for sneak peaks of all the new stuff from TRJ!! Thanks again for all the kind words and support!!!! Chasity TRJ
I have every issue in absolute mint condition and started purchasing from Number 1, but I have not nor will I ever subscribe. The reason for this is that I do not want to risk having my copy left to the "tender mercy" of USPS. So I pay a premium and hand pick each one from the rack at Barnes & Noble, often rejecting several copies with dog eared corners or scratches on the cover. That is how much I value RJ.
But then you don't have both covers..you do know that the subs covers are different than the common folks news stand version, right? Just when you think you have them all... On a related topic, I was in Ron Francis' office and saw Issues 1,2. and 3 sitting on the table. I tried to get them but I was too slow. The number one was autographed by Steve ****an. It may be worth losing my job to get them... Spike
I have 20 or so, I don't handle them with kid gloves or anything and store them all the same. But I have one (Prufer coupe on the cover) on which the "plastic coating" on the cover and backcover is all cracked like a dried riverbed. Anyone else ever have that problem?
One great magazine. When I get done with mine I bring it over to my friend Treth. I was thinking of buying him a subscription but I enjoy watching him flip though it naming off the cars on the page without reading the captions. And best of all he always returns them.
Most of mine are dirty, worn, greasy, etc....from reading in the garage while working on stuff....I refer to them alot. The better the issue, the more "wear and tear" it has.... If a TRJ of mine is in MINT condition....somethings WRONG....hahaha!
Best car magazine/whatever-you-call-it ever! I've learned so much from that mag. They really get it, on a level that no one else does. I agree with whoever said they should be entered in the Library of Congress. THAT'S a good idea. My personal favorite is issue #13, for the *****en photo of that '50 Ford business coupe on the dock (San Diego car featured in same issue of Car Craft as the Jay Johnson shoebox). But they all rule.
In the long run it is the best money ever spent. Each issue is like a table top book not a throw away magazine. Subscribe and it works out to 10 bucks an issue. Best Publiucation ever created. Steve and the team puts their all into each issue, and it shows. chuck
I bought the first issue from a blurb in Street Rodder. Damn glad I did. I have 'em all and I read 'em constantly. Best there is. Period.
If you only get one magazine sent to your house it needs to be the journal. More of a book I guess. Now start collecting them all they are all great and the best.
