Is anyone running a vintage Impala? I want to install a roll bar in mine and need some input. The Impala frame is an X and I'm baffled on what to do. I have a 63......any advice?

Adding square tubing to the frame. Like outriggers. A good question, and no doubt some racers will have some detailed pix of there rides. What is the motor combo for your Avatar?

I know you said "period correct".But with that being said,to be NHRA legal it needs to be at least an 8 pt bar and since your car is a full frame car,it needs to be welded to the frame or outriggers attached to the frame.
An 8 pt will clear you to 10.00.Also,there are certain demensions that need to be within spec also for the placement of the bars.

Motor correct. Is this car aiming to run at the NHRA tracks? Otherwise, conforming to the powers that be is moot.

Outriggers is how it is done on an Xframe. It all depends on the tracks your frequent. I have 3 within an hour frome me. One is an NHRA-certified track and the tech there is brutal. One of the small tracks to the north of me doesn't even run tech most of the time.

Guy's, let's not get nuts.....I might take it to Island Dragway to make a few passes. I don't plan on running competitively. this is just for fun.....Thanks for the info, I would like to see some pictures.

Why not just make a cage/hoop for you and your seat

Actually you only need five points to clear you for 10.00 e.t.. The side bar on the passenger side is not manditory. Most people put it in for symmetry, and it is stronger. As far as putting in a hoop around yourself I wouldn't bother. Its gonna be the same amount of work, and you never know you might be in the 11.50 range where you need this roll bar. If your faster than 11.50 on any sanctioned track in the land, your gonna be required to have this roll bar N.H.R.A or not.... Personally if I was you I would pick up a current rule book and look through it before you cut any holes!!!
