I am putting in a JEGS line lock and I have a weepy brake fluid leak. I’ve narrowed it down to the bolt on the end of it, but I cannot find out a definition of what that bolt is/does. My guess is it holds in a spring for the fluid lock return but I don’t like just unbolting things that may have springs inside. Does anybody know what that bolt is and can I just tighten it up? Thanks.
Dog Patch put a Jeg's line lock on his SEGA G***er and had all sorts of trouble with it, think he is using a Hurst now. I heeded his advice and put a Hurst on my Hiboy roadster to start with and use it as a hill holder for the street as well as a line lock at strip. Only problem I have had with it was once with forgetting to hook up a wire after disconnecting to do other, unrelated work, and once for a bad push ****on switch.
tighten up or not, it will keep on leaking. swap out the solenoid for a Hurst line lock. then it wont leak.
There shouldn't be any bolt in the pressure circuit. Sounds like the bolt that holds the solenoid end on the case, if so then it has an internal leak and needs replacing.
^^^^what he said. Jeggs will likely swap it out or give you credit. I installed the Hurst line loc on my 442 years ago, still works perfect.
Thanks for the inputs. I did some additional research, the Hurst, Summit, Jegs, and others all look the same. Found some instructions on how to rebuild the Hurst which gave me the internal detail I was after. Looks like it needs R & R. Dang-it, it is much easier to work on it without my truck cab in place but I’m getting the cab back from paint before I can get the replacement parts in. I guess I will enjoy working on my back with a device that is full of fluid, fun with brakes!
You get what you pay for . Better you found out it leaks now and not after you spray brake fluid all over your new paint. I tried to save a few bucks with a cheaper line lock that decided not to release in the water box. Had to get a floor jack to roll the car out of the way while my opponent got a bye run.
