  1. I agree that your cars will be the best thing about Raawlins that night! What a dump.

Seems like several of you are of the opinion that rawlins is not a good place to stop for the night . Do any of you that are fimilar with that area have any suggestions ? If so we need to know asap if we are going to make a change . Thanks keith and ken

  3. Rawlins is fine, but it is dusty, hot and dirty!

  4. And they had the choice during statehood between the State Pen or the state capitol...............they thought the pen would be a better investment..DOH!

Then Rawlins it is . After all most of the guys we run with probably belong in the pen anyway

Try to get in Rawlins as early as you can. We got in there late last year ( about 11:00 PM ) coming back from the roadster show, got the only room left in town and it cost us $155.00 for the night and it was a dump.

We'll try to stop by the motel in West Des Moines to see your cars up close. We'll be the guys in the '32 tudor with the flatty.

  11. Rock Springs is the place to stay; better than Rawlins, 100 miles closer to the salt, more places to stay, I live here, more places to eat. Shit it is the better choice. Lodgeing could be an issue with the gas exploration going on in the area, but if you need phone numbers for room reservations let me know and I will PM you.

Even if you have to walk, come on by and have a beer with us. Always fun meeting fellow HAMBERs on the road.

This being my first trip to the salt, I am curious as to what days are the best. I can only come for a short stay, a day or two. I was thinking about showin' up on Thursday night and leaving Sunday.

I'm coming from Idaho, opposite you fellas, still looking forward to maybe meeting you and seeing your rods.

  14. I don't know you all, but I would love to come along. Though this year is definitely out. I'll have to try next season.

Hope all you guys and gals have a great time on the salt and have a safe trip out. Can't wait to see the pics from this year!

    Best, MRAK

I think you are really going to miss out on the action if you can't come until Thursday. I can't say enough how much I enjoy watching the cars go thru tech. It is the chance to stand basically in one place and see every car tore down for inspection. Remember to stay out of the way though! That happens Sunday, the 17th. I plan to get there Sunday the 17th and head out on Wednesday the 20th for the HAMB drags. Towards the end of the week everyone will be going home.

Dam, I'll just be getting back from CA after picking up a deuce 2 door. Won't have time to get the roadster to NP for a visit.

Paul, you and the crew have fun and stay safe. Your drive to B'ville makes mine look like a trip to the Qwikiemart!

    See ya on the salt.

You could drive half way and meet up with us. Say in Des Moines........other wise, I'll see you under the big red balloon. You have a safe trip too.

Hope you can make it. The whole reason for this thread is to meet some real car guys (girls too) on our X-country trip.

What do you think about a lunch stop in Omaha, NE, on your way through on Wednesday, Aug. 13th? I imagine it would take you about 2-1/2 to 3 hrs to get here from Des Moines, IA.

I know there's a group of us here that would love to meet up with you guys, if the timing works out for ya.

If not, I'm sure we'll still gather to watch you roll through and maybe chat if you need to stop for fuel.

Have a safe trip and, no matter what, I'll see you guys at Bonneville! :D

    Malcolm,
I don't think Omaha is in the plan. As of now, we're planning a stop at Speedway Motors. Lincoln is our halfway stop, so we'll probably lunch there. How about coming there to catch up with us?

It's looking like I may be able to meet you guys in Des Moines while I'm moving back to Nebraska, before the trip to Bonneville. Unfortunately I won't be adding to the auto scene, but just a packed SUV.
