That's a tough one. I love the look of nickel plating. Nickel plated windshield will look good on the car. A painted windshield fits your theme better.
Larry, consider flat hood sides and open exhaust pipes coming out mandatory. Look at the stain the exhaust flow left on the fuselage - can you imagine anything cooler down the side of your Deuce? Didn't think so. No gray needed on lower part of the hot rod. Gloss black frame would be so right. And I think I would prefer the wheels you have now left gloss black to spun discs. But either would work. I'm glad you're seriously considering it! I wanted to do a Model A that way, but haven't had a chance to yet. So when I do, I'll just say I copied you.
Thanks Danny. Whenever my streetrodder(sorry) buddies would ask what color I was going to paint it and I'd say Olive Drab, they'd look at me like . Believe it or not, the color was my wifes' idea! I think I'll keep her.
Larry, Yor car loks awsome, you are doing a great job, I agree that Plan "B" is definately worth the extra time. Thanks again for the help on the 32 steering wheel. Tracy
Maybe. I've already got 2 roadtrips in August. A third will be tough. One of them is the Thunder Over Michigan airshow. Seven B-17s! Last year when I was trying to buy a '38 coupe, I had "aircrafty" plans for it too. I wanted an air racer inspired look. A '38/39 is perfect for the aircraft looking exhaust. I always loved the illustration Ryan had of his car on the Jalopy Journal site, so that is what I started with. Fortunately I lucked into my cabriolet, and that was the end of my '38 plans. I still really like the concept though and it still hangs on my garage wall. Maybe someday...
No problem Tracy. Glad to help. Roger was in such a hurry to get the wheel, his check arrived before I could ship it! Trusting guy. Course most car guys are trustworthy. IMHO. Larry
AIRSHOW!! B-17's!! you lucky *******! Good looking pic. It also looks like a salt racer theme. Hmmm...
Yeah, SEVEN B-17s. I've never seen more than 3 at a time. Plus 2 B-24, B-29, (only) 4 Mustangs, 4 P-47s, 5 B-25, plus a gazillion T-6s. We're going in uniform. I can't wait. http://www.yankeeairmuseum.org The way the '38 hood is designed really begs for pipes out the side. Blackwalls would probably look better, but I'm addicted to whitewalls.
Just a thought, paint the inside of the ch***is gray, and the outside black or body color. That would have more of a fighter plane or GP race car look IMO. Black is the only wheel color!
Back wheels and blackwall tires! Gotta love 'em. Black is my favorite color and was my 1st pick for the coupe, but my wife said "Then you'll just look like eveyone else". Point taken. How many times have you seen a real nice Olive Drab Hotrod? Wouldn't have to worry about losing my car in a sea of red cars. I like the idea of freakin' people out. Doin' something different. When I get tired of it, I can always paint it RED!!!
I found a Tudor,Smarts and Genes (sells Smarts tin) only make/sell the lower flank. I am going to call Brookville and see if they will sell two Roadster full quarters and how much they are. I emailed a shop called Mcphersonauto about there steel Roadster quarters but have no reply from them. Any other leads...........................The roof parts are going to be the hardest parts to find.........................
Thanks for the info, Larry. I'd love to see a close-up pic of your louvered decklid. I've got some closeup shots of the rolling bones coupes from Bonneville.
I'll be posting pics of the decklid and other areas of the coupe soon. Check my other posts, there's one that has detailed info and pics of the way the front suspension is set up. Larry
I have to agree with you thirtytwo. Even Ken Schmidt from rolling bones gives the credit to Spencer for their cars look. He says they stole the idea from Spencer and just changed a couple of things. larry
Hey Larry, I want to see more pics of your car. I love the style you are building to and to be honest I am lost for words. I have always liked those Rollin Bones cars and I would like to get in touch with you and also the Rollin Bones. Here in New Zealand once my T is done I would like to build a similar styled car. Keep up the great work, looking forward to following more progress. Best regards, Greg Stokes Auckland New Zealand hopup32ford@hotmail.com
Hey Greg. Thanks for the kind words. The best way to get hold of Ken or Keith at Rolling Bones is at their website: WWW.ROLLINGBONESHOTRODSHOP.COM. I'll be posting more pics of my coupe as the build progresses. Larry
