Does anyone have photos of a Rolling Bones style front end with a Model A frame and grill shell? Would this set up even work?
I don't know of any pics with any but it's definitely doable. The only thing that I would be apprehensible about would be the fact that Model A's look best with their stock wheel base of 104" unless you are putting them on a '32 ch***is. What would be really trick is if you could leave the axle in the original position and move the front cross member back so that you can have that low Rolling Bones look. You'd have to shorten the hood because the radiator would be moved back 2" but I am sure that you could split the difference of shortening the hood and moving the radiator if you got cleaver enough. Would be interesting to see!
move the cross member back and run a 3" chopped radiator out over the axle... stock hood and grill shell

here ya go........my 31 coupe on a A frame,,spring behind axle, long before Rolling Bones started building cars.
Yeah Cruzr it is an awesome hotrod! Love the stance, what's the set up in the rear? And in response to firerod, anything is do-able, but the question is will it be worth it in the long run? Add alot of time, and possibly expensive custom parts like rad, spring hangers, or custom length hood....depending on how you do it. If you're going to use a straight axle, or an early un-dropped axle and do the so called rolling bones thing, I'd say it's not going to be worth the time/money/effort. By going with a dropped axle and the standard configuration, you'll end up with the same stance and a cl***ic look that can't be beat, with a fraction of the work. But if you're going to do something like Cruzr did with a dropped axle, it's obviously going to be worth it. You get even lower in the front...makes the car more unique and aggressive. Using the 32 shell gives him an aesthetic advantage and a fabrication advantage, because the model a rad has some "give room" to float inside the bigger/deeper shell, and it still allows the axle to be behind the shell, instead of in front...like it would most likely be if you used the standard A shell....but again that would all depend on how you set it up. I've seen some torsion bar set ups and also quarter elliptical set ups on A's with A frames and shells that let the frame sit pretty low in the front, letting the shell hang down over the axle...pretty cool lookin in my opinion, but even more complicated to make everything work. I'm sure whatever you decide, it's gonna be cool! just keep studying and searching. Good luck. -Steve
"What's a "Rolling Bone's" front end??? This just made sense to me to get my car lower...." Rolling Bones just used an old Hot Rodder "trick" to get the fron end lower, its been done a lot and goes way back........Not taking away from Rolling Bones cars cause i love what they build.
Why is it that when you calling it a "Rolling Bones" setup it's ok...but when you call it a "spring behind" it's dangerous?
