Surrounded by 10 Corvett's. Looks like you went to the wrong car event. At least there was One car there with some Class. Did they ask you to leave? The Wizzard
Am I the only one who likes the scalloped version. It will make the car appear longer as if it was sectioned. The front fender body line be less noticeable. It looks good in all the build styles it`s been threw.
Resto ?? What time frame are you thinking and how far apart? Let me tell you about taking a Good car apart for just a little work. This is where just a little repaint work ended up back in 2009. This is where it sits today and has for about 8 months. After 3 complete re paint jobs trying to achieve perfection, then deciding just personal satisfaction would be fine. Now the Lust and Drive have changed to disgust and disappointment and total loss of interest. I advise thinking Long and Hard before getting in to deep. They come apart way to easy and support and Good help are often what Kills a personal project. It's never just a little fix it. Change your wheels and tires, throw away the back up cammera. You could even go back to a Y-Block but don't take that car apart for a Resto. The Wizzard
That's a relief! I agree with doing what it takes to keep up appearances. I also really like the Scallops. Phill is one of our Best when it comes to color blend/choice for that and is over the top when it comes to Flames. The Wizzard
Found this photo Car show in Tampa.. Both of these cars were originally built in Portland Oregon in 1962 and voted Top Ten Best Customs in CarCraft Magazine in 1963. Blue car is a 1957 Ford Custom, an award winner at the Portland Roadster Show in 1963, 1964, and 2009 besides several other show awards. The red car is a 1956 Chevy Custom, the owner states its been in a museum for serveral years until recently when the owner passed away and he acquired it. We spotted this car at the Tampa Show because he displayed the same CarCraft Magazine. Now both cars are in Southwest Florida. Quite a big deal... PS.. both these cars could be yours, they're headed to the Mecuum Auction in Kissimmee, FL in January 2011 Sent from Austinrod
That car has been for sale a BUNCH. In fact, it just sold again at B-J in January: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1956-chevy-barris-kustom.1047723/
Personally, I like the wires best. But if that's not an option, I think the chrome reverse wheels do look the part for that time frame. The 5-spoke wheels are too busy and have more of a "competition" look, not the smoooooth look of a custom. And I'd put baby Moons on the chrome reverse wheels to clean them up. The exposed lug nuts make it look unfinished. Love that turquoise color!
As you know, I am a custom car guy. I love cars with flippers. But I have never been a fan of chrome reverse wheels. I know everybody had them in the late 50`s and 60`s. But I have never gotten used to the look. They look unfinished to me. Some cars look good with them and others don`t. On your car, I like the Raiders. If you look at the two pic`s above, the pic with Raiders with the rake looks good. It gives it that 60`s vibe. The pic with the scallopes, the car seems to be missing something. I can`t seem to put my finger on it thou. The mid 60`s is the most often overlooked build of all car being built. That is a nicely built car without a wild paint scheme. I do like the wire wheels on the car.
Left as in drivers side? Fairly normal for that side to slump a little over time as you have the drivers weight always on that side. To be sure and get the car to sit right, I'd normally say stand and bounce on the bumpers to get the car to settle all the way, but not an option here Shocks/struts should mostly be responsible for rebound, but in cars like ours, can add/subtract from the ride height some depending on how they were installed. My initial guess would be it's likely deteriorated rubber components on the suspension. That's where I would start...
Just found this rear shot of the scalloped version of SeaBurst From Dick Page Facebook page Sent from my KUSTOM
May be optical illusion or the lighting, but some of the scallops look "thicker" in that photo. Especially around the taillights and rear wheel wells. Also, yet another wheel/tire combination!
