For the main power wire from the alt. that goes to battery can I put that on the main lug on the starter rather than run it all the way back to the battery. Sorry for the easy question, I didn't have any luck searching for it as I didn't know what to search for. Thanks

it's better not to attach it to the battery post, it would be at risk to corrode. attach it at the other end of the battery cable.

I did it that way on the truck. The battery is in the back of the bed and it seemed that it was safer to use that large starter cable to run that leg than using yet another wire. Been running that way for 3 years now with no issues.

My battery is in the trunk so I ran the 10 guage wire from the alternator to the post on the solenoid where the battery cable connects. Another 10 guage wire goes from the solenoid into the car and connects to the power into the fuse box. It works Ok and keeps things neat.
