Sorry my bad , absolutely nothing negative about full body paralysis or death , must be some meaning I missed ? Maybe losing a limb or complete body disfigurement ?
Again man...if you READ what I said, I clearly said I am happy that was NOT the case. Im tryin to be nice about it and all because I generally assume folks who act the way you are choosing to are just going through maybe not the best of times so I'd rather be patient and kind but youre really workin to spin something I said that was kind into something negative and I dont appreciate it. Fact is, 1-2 pages before my comment Chris was talking about not only his daughter giving him a hard time about ladders but also about learning his lesson and planning on buying a lift to be safer in the future THAT is the lesson I was referring to. I also wished him blessings and a speedy recovery but you were so busy looking for negatives in my comment I dont think you got that far. Again. Hope things get better for you, all the best
Chris, great to hear that you have all the surgery stuff behind you. Perhaps it will test your patience, but you are on the road to recovery. Not a bad road to be on despite a few bumps. But I have to ask..... how is the Hilborn unit doing?
Hate to be at the end of the line of well wishers, must have had a brain fade when I saw the post. You were blessed in that the fall didn’t kill you. I had a ladder accident several years ago. Fell 8 feet, just missing a brick wall with my melon. The button on the top of my cap hit the top of the wall! I did manage to completely break my knee cap when I hit the deck, and spent my honeymoon in the hospital. The nurses made a sign for the door that said “Honeymoon Suite, Knock Before Entering”! Hope I’m not the last to say prayers are for a speedy recovery. And listen to your daughter.
Had a porch built this Summer and the guy (a seasoned pro) told how he had fallen a few times over the years, I asked him what he did and he said........ "I got back on the horse, I had s#/t that needed to get done" Carry on Chris
This is my first time seeing this thread I am glad to see @Roothawg is feeling well enough to be back here. Get well soon and best of luck on your recovery.
Thanks again to all that have commented. I went out to the shop last night for the first time to take a look. After looking at the way the ladder folded up, I am really not sure what happened. I am very lucky to be alive though. There were tons of hazards where I landed. There’s an old phrase that says “ God looks after drunks and idiots”. I don’t drink, so….
I have to admit that this has sure made me consider climbing my junk ladder in the shop just to do things like hang stuff on the wall. I also used to climb up my pallet racks to get stuff and that all the sudden also seems like a bad idea. Glad you were good enough to make it out to the shop Chris. That sounds like progress for sure!
Just got off the phone with Chris, sounds like he is doing great, I am a bad influence though, there is a swap meet next weekend and I told him he should go.... LOL
Yea, guessing that swap meet is sort of what started this whole deal. If I wasn’t going to be out of town, I might be crawling up my pallet racks getting stuff ready to take…
Late reading this but I am very glad you are up and about now! Let’s all be careful out there, gents!
It's just a flesh wound. He will be out and about soon. As soon as momma let's him. As soon as he finds the key to his scooter. As soon as they pluck the staples out of his brain housing. Glad you are at least moving around a bit!
I misplaced my step ladder. Just a little three stepper. Handy to have. And I needed it. But I looked and looked and couldn't find the thing. Couldn't help but think of his thread and wonder why the hell did I even want to find it. LOL Oh, found it. Right where I left it. I'll be careful. I know to stay way away from any injected 301's. Glad you're doing better!
Years ago I had to do a chainsaw operators course as part of working for a local council. One of the first things they told us was to have an escape route cleared if things go pear-shaped. I try to do something similar if getting up high on a ladder although I'm still guilty of grabbing the ladder and thinking of it when approaching the top. Hey Roothawg. When you went back out to the shed did you go in mumbling to yourself "who's the dumbass that put that engine there?" Or was it a case of "shit, that could've ended badly"? I'm glad you're on the mend.
i just had to toss one of the fiberglass ladders we had at work, it was really old and sundamaged, my rule of thumb is once it loses its gleam, its gotta go. wishing the best recovery, ladder falls can be deadly even to younger folks, especially to older guys!
My old dentist did his office to look like a '30s dental office including a big, heavy cast iron overhead light. I sat in the antique dental chair and be began to bring the light down for a look BUT! The entire light fell outta the ceiling and fell on my face, opening a nice gash across my eyebrow. He said "Ah shit! My daughter will take you to the emergency room to get you sewed up..........I'll pay for it all!" [6 stiches] He wouldn't pay shit and I ate the $425 bill.....for awhile. I brought suit on him and won $2500. Then he got busted inflating medicare work done and went to jail. Karma is a bitch. Get better.
My family goes Bezek if I mention the word ladder out loud anymore, I was going to clean the chimney and they all said not no but, HELL NO! So Brenda got the ladder and did it herself, her explanation, "I'm not as clumsy as you." HRP
