Late to the party so to speak, but here's a big "me too" for what everyone else has said. Glad to hear you are on the mend. Take care of ole number 1. All the best and be careful out there!
WOW, Sorry to hear this! Reading what happened gave me the "Willies" as I have spent a bunch of time on a ladder 10-13ft off the floor in the shop over the last couple of weeks. Prayers for a speedy recovery Root from Laura & I God Bless Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ar-transport-hauling-open-or-enclosed.614419/
falling sucks. been there, done that. be sure to not get hooked on those pain pills. when you stop taking them you feel strange. I can see how easy it would be to get hooked on them
I had never even heard of or thought of ladder safety training. I just watched a 20 minute video and learned a couple of important tidbits. https://www.americanladderinstitute.org/page/LSTVideos
Wow, just seeing this. How awful, just as you've got retirement and a new shop build on the horizon. I'm 63 and a couple years from retirement but seldom climb anymore (overhead utilities) and have seen a lot of really bad injuries and a couple of fatalities over the years from ladder and pole falls even though we regularly train and certify. Prayers for a speedy recovery buddy! Hang in there!
Root… you see this and need anything, holler at me… I’m pretty much a spinal expert at this point. Hate to hear of your fall…
Chris, add me to the list of guys praying that you make a smooth and complete recovery back to your former pre-accident self. You are certainly on the short list of guys that add positive value to this site. Physical recovery can be a bitch at times, but you just need to stare her down and beat this thing. Good luck.
I'm saddened to hear of your fall, I'm not allowed on any ladders anymore, for this reason. Take time and all will heal, I know ALOT about getting hurt...Mitch
That is horrible. Root, sending prayers and good thoughts your way for a full recovery. Damn, I hate to hear this news. Take extra care of yourself, we all are here for you.
Chris Anymore ladders kind of scare me, (actually, some past history), also, my wife recently fell off a step ladder and bruised a rib pretty bad, we both agreed it could have been worse, so, @Roothawg really hoping things heal well, as much as we would like, you can't rush these things though. As others have mentioned, be wary of the Oxys'!!!
Damn.... Back injuries aren't good, make sure you listen AND obey the DRs instruction. Hopefully you have health insurance. Get well soon! (but don't rush it!!!) As a guy who spent most of his career working off ladders (electrician), I hated when the safety 'experts' declared 3-legged ladders 'unsafe'. Four legged ladders will 'walk' plus are harder to get into congested areas. I had more close calls with those than I ever did on the 3-legged type...
Thanks for all the well wishes. I am feeling a lot better. Yesterday I felt like I had been run over by a truck. My youngest is a Nurse Practitioner. She worked in the local trauma hospital Neuro ICU. She has always told me that I wasn’t allowed on a ladder. She said old guys on ladders were 90% of her patients. I could hear her voice as I was falling….No ladders dad!
Alchemy, do you mean the part about the M-ll crossmember? I' m sure he'll never hear the end of that part of the story....talk about insult to injury!!! Lol
I guess I'll tell you all about the time (a loooong time ago) I was rushing down a ladder and my hammer loop was in front and the hammer lodged it self in the ladder and me and the ladder went for a "two-story theme park ride" over a dumpster, which acted as a fulcrum speeding up my impact into the ground. To this day I distinctly remember my buddies' faces as they watched my arc down to the earth. They were laughing hysterically. Thankfully the jobsite was clear and all soft dirt/mud... except for that dumpster. I didn't pay for any beer that night and they never let me hear the end of it. PSA, keep your hammer in the back of your tool belt - there's a reason.
Well damn. It can happen so fast. Speedy recovery and have a ladder burning party when you are back at it. Best wishes.
I hope no permanent injury .One suggestion to help you feel better; take the flaming wrench to0 that MII crossmember. Get well soon.
