Recently found and purchased another 60's era front motor dragster. Probably last run in the 80's and sitting in a trailer for the last 20 or so years. Car has a small block Chevy and on cleaning and taking things apart, discovered that the TH350 transmission had a plate on the back with "ROSSI" stamped in it. Was this a "trick" transmission in its day? I believe its a west coast item and maybe some of the more senior members here can give me some info about the transmission. BTW the fluid is still clear and red.
There was a person named vince Rossi who was involved with dragsters back in the 60's and beyond out in California. Do a search for Rossi dragster or Vince Rossi.
Rossi transmissions was in Pomona... they did my turbo 350 back in 72. They built a lot of racing transmissions for a long time, not sure if they are still around. http://www.newspapers.com/newspage/70256169/ That is a newspaper clip from 1972 about them.
It sounds like Rossi's way of shortening a TH350 transmission by using that "plate". I've seen similar. Butch/56sedandelivery.
