Okay, yes I will call rosta on monday but I am working on this now so any help would be appreciated. I have not been able to get my cruise control to operate and have been checking all my wiring over again.

The instructions say to connect wire ** to the HOT side of the brake switch. I am pretty sure that this is supposed to cancel the cruise when the brakes are applied. When I checked the circuit that line is always hot. Wouldn't that be canceling the system all the time as the current is always on.

Shouldn't it be wired to the terminal that goes from switch to the brake lights?

Maybe my ignorance of HOT got me in trouble here.

    Thanks,

    Fourdy

I may be wrong, but I'm gonna take a shot at it.

The hot side of the brake switch may be "hot", but there is no current through it until the brake switch is "made" by stepping on the brake. Is it possible that wire ** is a current sensing circuit?

    Thanks,

I am going to tap into the other side of the switch that gets voltage only when the switch is activated. Hope that will clear up the problem.

    what !!!!!!!!

  5. When they say the hot side they mean the side that gets hot when you apply the brakes. You are on target with the idea to move it to the other side. The side that is dead until the brakes are applied.

You don't use the two terminal brake switch, you must use a three or four terminal switch, you want the cruise control to be hot when the ignition switch is turned on through the accessory mode and when you apply the brakes, the power is interrupted to the cruise control.

The Rostra units I installed had wires that conntected to both sides of the brake switch. The red wire with the fuse holder connected to the constant hot side and the violet wire connected to the cold side.

As I understand it, they do it this way so that the cruise unit can sense if there is voltage at the brake switch. It's a safety feature to help make sure there will be a signal to cancel the cruise when the brakes are applied. The violet wire gets power when you hit the brakes and drops out the cruise.

The brown wire supplies the main power to the unit and no power will drawn from the red wire while the unit is off.

I have a Rostra unit in my 57 and I had the same problem you're having. The unit wouldn't engage. Called Rostra and techline guy says check your brake lights. If 1 is burnt tyhe unit won't operate. Sure enough right side was burnt.

mine is hooked up in my 58 truk like 46ford and the instructions indicate. my led tail lights stayed on dimly when i installed the unit (key on) and i chased the problem to feedback thru the cruise controler. i called rostra tech support and they said the global would not work with my brake switch. stock 2 wire brake switch. they recomended a relay in the brake circuit.

anyone else have a similar problem with the rostra global cruise intall?

relay install will happen this winter. i'll need for the drive to coco beach for the power tour...

I installed a relay in both cars I have with Rostra cruise. I did it to control the torque converter lock up and because one had halogen tail light bulbs (notorious for burning up brake light switches). Guess I avoided any chance of back feed by accident!
