Technical Round back spindle question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by pprather, Aug 14, 2023.

  1. I have P&J round back spindles.
I'm working on hiding the disc brake rotor. The space available behind the rotor is insufficient.

Is there a safe way to space the wheel hub out slightly toward the end of the spindle?

    Thanks.

Wouldn’t the amount of spindle threads that stick out beyond the castle nut tell you so long as seal still can ride well at the root of the spindle?

You would also need to space out your bearings, wouldn't you? Seems like it gets complicated fast.

Space out the inner bearing, sure. Then the outer bearing doesn't sit against the taper on the spindle. Smaller inner bearing, then? That equals higher bearing speeds. Sounds like a can o'worms to me.

Hilltop Cast makes some backing plates for this purpose. Maybe their design will help you figure out what you need to do?

  5. I think I will try to find someone to mill a little off the caliper bracket. I just need to get a measurement as to how much.
    Thanks guys.
