I'm looking for a Hurst "round bar" handle for my Hurst Competition Plus shifter (mine didn't come with a handle). I've been trying to find one to put in my '62 Ford Fairlane (soone to get a toploader 4-speed) but am not sure which cars came with them. I know that the '69 Camaro/Firebird 4-speed cars came with one - but what other makes/models and years I don't know. Anyone know which cars came equipped with "round bar" Hurst shifters?

    Thanks!

Every Hurst "round bar" I ever saw was an OEM installation with a one piece stick, it didn't bolt in like the aftermarket versions. I had a '71 Z/28 and an '81 Z/28 and neither one said HURST on the factory lever that I recall but that was 30 years ago. I know early GTO's used them on both 3 and 4 speed cars, I used to have a couple years ago. I sold them to a guy that was doing the same thing you are. He was going to cut them off, weld the tab to the bottom and have them replated so his car would look original but would actually be functional. The factory units weren't all that great.

I had one in a '69 Roadrunner, weld in stick, had flats on the side of the upper part of the stick, with the Hurst name on the flats.

All 3 '69 Camaros I had in the past had the "round bar" shifter handle.. A Z/28, a SS and an aftermarket install on a 3-speed with an inline 6 (My first '69) Sorry! I don't have those any more.. :(

69 Dart Swinger 340 had the round handle with the flats also. Factory Hurst shifter.

That's exactly what i'm looking for, the problem is you have to buy the whole transmission with it! Terry-O sent me a link for Chevrolet shift handles that are made for the Hurst shifter, they are the round-bar style but do not have "Hurst" on them:

Is there any more vehicles that came with a Hurst "round bar" shifter?

    Thanks!

I still have my complete shifter (less knob) from my 69 Camaro.

Those were ITM shifters. The Z-28 may have gotten a Hurst.

I know Trans-Ams had a Competition Plus from the factory with a round shift handle.

Yes, my 69 340 Dart had one when new; I got it in spring of 1970. It came with a cheapie brown plastic fake woodgrain knob.

I now have a factory 69 Dart GT conv 273 with 4 speed and it has the same shifter.

Think this is probably the same handle/knob as the Roadrunner I am talking about. I remember seeing them in '69 340 swingers, and they looked the same. Of course the shift rods would be different.

You are correct Shawn, they were ITM, even for the Z28's.

I have an early shifter without the bolt in handle, cut it off and welded a flat plate to the shifter stup and used a length of 5/8"cold rolled rod to make a handle it now is centered in the car and not tight to my right leg.
