I’ll start with the Olds. I would have taken the ’31 to the show, but it wasn’t in the cards. The worn out 283 I put in it when I got it on the road is even more worn out now, and I didn’t think it would survive the drive. The Olds has been my backup car for the last two years while I played with the hot rod. The decision was made to take the Olds and have fun just the same. But the more I thought about it (and looked at it) the worse that paint looked. It was a quickie job when we did it done years ago, and it was really starting to show.

So with about a month to go, I got started on bodywork. Shaved the driver’s door handle (passenger side was done on the last go-round), you’re WELCOME EVEL! Haha. Fixed the fiberglass, bondo, and rust mess that was the drivers lower rear quarter panel. “Took care” of the dent in front of the left rear wheel and re-did some of the other bodywork. It honestly needed a lot more than what it got, but I can live with it as is for a while.

Last Tuesday, (April 6th, three days to go) MarkX shot the color. I picked it up the following day and brought it home. While he had the car I used a lot of elbow grease stripping the cloudy anodizing off all the aluminum trim and polished it up. I finished putting the last piece of trim back on the car at about 11:00 Thursday night.

I’ll give you one guess as to where these guys were heading…
    [IMG]

Made it to the Expo Center, caught some music, ate some food, and checked out the swap meet. Headed to our hotel and saw we were in some nice company.

Met Hot Turkey and checked out his killer coupe, all the way from Florida.

Headed down to Congress, cruised for about an hour and found a spot to park. Came across this awesome Firebird….

Spent a lot of time at the Trophy Club, it was great! Saw (heard mostly) Jade Idol rock the house. Oh, and have you guys ever looked up in the men’s bathroom? Hahaha
    [IMG]

Most of my shots from Friday night were too blurred to be worth a damn. So after waking up Saturday morning with a lovely hangover, we headed to the show.

Very glad to see Norwell’s truck in person. Just as stunning as in the pictures I’ve seen.

Out of the whole show, everything I saw……this ’57 is THE car I would have liked to take home, my absolute favorite. It is spot on in nearly every aspect.

And that was it! Headed back home. It seems Honda’s Element green is quite similar to GM ’72 Gulf Green…

Had a blow out on one of our guys trailers…
    [IMG]

But were lucky enough that it was right in front of a Wally World! Their tire center was closed but they still sold us a tire. No sweat, a little Palmolive, man-power, and an airbag equipped Oldsmobile got it changed in the parking lot. Back on the road!

Once again, I had a blast and wish I were still there. Thanks to the Kontinentals for putting on this amazing show every year, I am lucky to live only 3 hours away….its nearly in our back yard compared to many who drove cross country or flew across the ocean. I know I missed a lot of cars with my camera, there were some I have seen in other’s pictures that I didn’t even realize were at the show. Best show in Texas, best show in the country. Can’t wait for #10!!!

That looks like it was a great show! Thanks fo the pictures. Once again proving that tilting a camera to fit a car in the frame is a wast of time. Those pictures are great. Thanks for taking the pictures normal, hehe
