I love this story! He's the real deal. I remember reading somwhere about when they were trying to talk him into putting it in a show, I believe the Revolution, he said "nobody will want to see that old thing" or something quite like that. Jokes on him! I'd love to see it in real life.
Sid drove it out to our last Annual New Years Atomic Coffee! It was so cool to see it in person and amazingly, it still sports the same tires he put on it during the build! WOW!
I saw the car in Lincoln at the Americruise in 95, took a picture of it and hung it on my wall- along with 1200 other photos of traditional hot rods and customs. Whenever anybody asked me what Hot Rod I liked the best, I always pointed to the coupe with Drapal on the front bumper. In Salina I took about 12 pic`s of it, I told him his car was one of my favorite cars at the event. And That`s comin from a KUSTOM car guy.
Bringing this up for all to see and read, should be inspiring to all Hot Rodders, Love this car and the story. Thank You Jeff Norwell, Roy and Sid. Glenn Hayes
Thanks for bringing up a 12 year old post, it's one I somehow missed back then, Amazing car, and a great story behind it! Roy was 81 in 2008, so would now be near 93. Is he still making sparks and banging wrenches?
Somehow I missed this post. I live 30 miles from Roy and first met him when I was driving my deuce 2 door in 1973. He wanted to talk cars and I enjoyed the short conversation. He came to my shop when I had it on the farm to look at my stuff. It wasn't until he first brought his car to our Tri City Street Rods show that I realized what a craftsman he is. It's that generation that put hot rodding on the map and treasures like Roy are leaving us rapidly.
They don’t get any more genuine than Roy. Just saw him recently when he came down when Sid had surgery. Always enjoy visiting with him.
