Submitted for you perusal: A few random, shabby pictures from yesterday's RPM nationals at Barona Drag strip.
If you didn't go, well...you missed out on a good time. Like the mix of vehicle vs Rancho Santa Margarita RPM. Maybe they’ll expand?

We were there friday night. Lots of guys tuning and running. It was a blast. I brought out the t-rex. It ran great, turned an 8.35 at just over 80 mph. The organizer told me that I could not run, because I had radial tires. The funny thing is I dont have radial tires. Oh well, we had fun on friday night and stayed home on saturday to work on my friends 32 roadster. IMG_1249.jpeg IMG_1011.jpeg

Super cool! I completely forgot about the event, damn it. I just looked at my flyer for the antique Nationals and it's the same weekend as El Mirage , shit. What to do what to do? Maybe I'll go out to El Mirage Saturday and then if I get a hair up my ass race the car on Sunday

Thanks for sharing. I wish I could've gone with some buddies that went down there, but I had an early show to play at Mother's Tavern in Sunset Beach, so I would've had to be out of there so early it wouldn't have been worth going. The pic's help me get over missing it. But the gig went really well, so it's all good.

Cool seeing all the west coast racing action this year!

  14. I'm confused, what is the cutoff year for RPM nationals? it says 1963 and before styling, does that mean 50s cars are allowed to race? or are the only cars allowed to race 40s and before?

ive always wanted to try racing a near stock 50s car against a hopped up 50s style hot rod, see how far i'd be left behind :D

edit, i finally found the part of the rules that states the cutoff, says 1936 or earlier for bodies. and flatheads only aswell.

The Barona RPM races are open to pre '64 OHV engines in '36 and earlier cars, it was the biggest class at the event. the pre '63 body styles are allowed in the show.

  16. Barona says its cutoff is 1940 for cars, and it must meet all NHRA rules.
"1963 and earlier era correct, early small block Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac, Buick, y block, hemi, gmc, etc powered cars as well as flathead v8 and bangers will be welcome. Cars must be 1940 or older and no parts later than 1963"

oh well, seems there are few if any avenues for legally doing a race like i imagine. lots and lots of rules.

This roadster pickup looks like it has fantastic proportions, Any pictures of it from the front?

No, but it was one of the faster cars, and the driver had the best reaction time of the day.

  20. Great looking rod. And in regards to @JimSibley s post above about tires, the RPU looks like it's running radial casings on those cheater slicks. ;)
