Just finished a totally home-grown roadster top framework. The wood header was made from clear dry fir. I had taken measurements from a reproduction original. The attachment brackets are fabrications made to resemble those I had some photos of. The rest of the top frame is from 5/8" steel tube and 1/4" x 1" strap. The mounting brackets were made from some scrap 1/4" x 2" stainless of unknown alloy. It was tough enough to strip out a band saw blade. Had to use a cutoff saw to cut the pieces to size.

I anticipated having to put a removable steering wheel in so I could get my fat ass through the doorway. Just made it though, without changing the wheel. Have to fold myself up and go in head first. ;-)

Tomorrow it's off to the canvas man to see about having the cover made. Sewing is not in my job description.

    Hi Bert,

In order to keep the bed (rear tub) fully usable with a kicked up frame I had to move it up level with the rear of the cab. Worked out OK. I have added a small bumper to the rear since these photos were taken. That covers and protects the fuel cell. ~Jim

Gettin wet in that deuce Roadstar???

That top frame looks great. I've been getting soaked in my RPU over the last few weeks.

I guess having a CNC mill in your garage helps :)

Did you extend that cab? Looks a little longer. I thought about doing that do I could fold my 6'5" into my 28 easier.

Let's see that bad boy when it's done. We got a top frame from a Speedway kit started for Flower's roadster and just now trying to get the right "look".

I ordered the cab extended, 2" in the doors and 4" in the quarters. I'm 6'-2" and it fits fine. I tried getting in a stock '28. After I got in, took a while, I couldn't get my foot up on the brake. People were friggin midgets in 1928.

I went to the canvas man. Top will be made in the last week of June. My wallet will be $1100 lighter. I'm anxious to get some shade.
