I traded my 28 sedan to Hamber Rockfish 6 weeks or so ago for this 31 Pick up with the roof cut off. It had alot of cool parts, but it looked kind of goofy.

    before.

It sat around for a couple of weeks, but after I got home from the Round Up I started cutting it up. The idea was to use what was there and just move stuff around. Basically I cut it up into a bunch of peices and welded it back together.

    after.

I started with the frame, the body was channeled way over the frame, which looked bad and took up much valuable space in the cab. I wanted to keep the stance low, but I diddn't want to Z the frame in the front. I decided to do an experiment and pie cut the frame at the cowl and at the crossmember. It gave the frame a nice arch and lowered it over 4 inches. I think it worked out really well. I was worried that it might look broken, but it looks pretty natural.

    arch.

Then I cut up the body to make it look more like an actual roadster. I cut off the top 3 inches and the old windshield frame and replaced it with round tubing. I also cut down the doors and jams to have roadster proportions and made all new floors.

Then I fabbed up a custom dash and some new windshield posts.

I call the dash, "Ode to the HEX."

Then I fitted the box and added the 61 Plymouth Tail lights.

I also leaned back the grill shell and modified the headlight stands to drop the guide lights down low.

I'm pretty happy with it so far. Plans are to get it in tinted primer and fired up within the next 10 days or so.
Then it goes to EBAY, so I can have the money to finish the Bleedster and open my little store.

It ****s, I kind of like this thing. I'd like to keep it for awhile, but I have to keep my priorities straight.......

And this, boys and girls, is why Bob Bleed RULES!

I know that I would have been lost. I knew that the truck looked funny before, but I never would have been able to fix it without starting over again. That's why I am building a Bob Bleed shrine in the spare room of my house. All I need is a lock of his hair and a couple of human skulls and it'll be complete...

    HaHa shrine, thats wierd.

Yeah that back is still funny looking, actually the whole box is, but it will do. I was planning on cutting the lower part off and making a roll pan, but I think I will experiment with nerf bars first, maybe some chrome bumper guards will work.........

The motor rules. It is a '57 364 mated to a Muncie 3 speed. The whole works was in a 40 ford at some point.

Cutting the doors and jams down ****ed, it was a lot more work than I thought it would be. I've been busting my *** on this one.

I'm trying to get it done before my handlebar mustach grows in.......

It was nice to push it outside today to take a look.

    Thanks.

Evel I'll call you about that motor.

That is one of the coolest dash ideas I've seen in a long time. And the taillights rock!

I do think the grille would look better at the same angle as the cowl from a design standpoint, though.

Some nerf bars that wrap around under the taillights would visually break up all that bulk under the tailgate and behind the rear wheel...and they'll definitely fit the style of the car.

    Very nice work, Bob.

Yeah if you guys are interested, get ahold of me. I'll probably post it in the cl***ifieds, but I am pressed for time. I need to move this rig within a month. This post isn't meant to be spam, I'm just proud......

Here's a couple more before pics.

    back

This is what the door tops looked like before.

Heres a pic from the front as it sits now. The reason I leaned back the grill shell was to fill the space in the engine compartment. I moved the body forward 2 inches from where it was, but it still looked off.

By tilting the grill shell it filled that space. It also works visually with the windshield and the overall slant of the truck. I think it creates movement.

    Looks pretty tough.

I am partial to a leaned back grille as well.

Not bad for a long haired hippie cheesehead.

Mayebe it will rain and I will see you Wednesday if you go down to Drew's. Maybe shifts will drop off a package for me there tomorrow.

Bob, thanks for letting me take you away from working on the truck for a little while Saturday. It's damn impressive what you've accomplished in such a short time. Did you ever think of trying to do this stuff for a living? [IMG]
I'm looking forward to seeing it done.
