Here are a few pictures I snapped this morning. The lighting isn't great, just goes to show I am no pro behind the Camera.... My Dad and his buddies; Jon and Ken, have many, many hours getting the hood to this point. We had know idea how much work it takes to make it fit NICE!! Let me start by saying this all began life as a three piece hood system from Hagan, our templates obviously stank because when we got the hood it didn't fit. Rather than messing around on the phone to straighten it out, we just cut it in half and decided to make it what it should have been from the beginning....a four piece hood. We used the hinge off from a 1932 Crys. hood my Dad bought for the vents....Well I'll have to post a tech on that these pictures wouldn't help me describe HOW it was done, I'm just geeked to see it in the sun and I'm sure a couple of you (maybe not some) would like to see it as well... The latch is a Dan Fink deal that uses two Dzus fasteners that works really handy, of course, it was a universal piece so it has been extensivly modified to look like it belongs there... The sides are held at the bottom with tapered pins and have three dzus fasteners along the top. (more tech on that later as well) what seems like 5,000 hours and it ain't done yet, now the blister has to be cut and reshaped to fit the contour of the hood sides and the other side has to be done, but it's coming along and this weekend will be one of the many self imposed dead lines p***ing us by and the next one almost seems impossible to meet as well. So with that said I leave you with a few pictures and a few words of wisdom..... F-deadlines, build your car to the quality you are striving to meet and then enjoy it.
Thanks for the updated photos Matt. I'm not sure I like it as much with the hood and sides on. Your covering up all the very cool details.
Lots of cool stuff going on with that RPU. Little too late now but it might have been cool to curve the spreader bar to match the axle. Clark
They may have to send out the magazines with postage due on them when this car is done, it has so many details that Rod and Custom is going to have to be the size of a phone book to do it justice.
the pictures do not do this justice. this truck is so amazing. there are details every where. i stared at it for a good hour and half and still missed stuff. ilike it with the hood sides he blisters turned out sweet! how much longer damnit!
Looks great Matt, tell your dad the Autorama judges are already looking at it Getting the hood to fit 32's is one of the hardest parts of the build. I know you guys have a ton of hours in that one and it will really pay off in the end. I think a roadtrip to Ionia is in my near future. I need to show Denny the dirt trackers on the roadster, that will mess him up good Later man
nice ride...i like it. The detail is amazing...all the holes in the frame really stand out too. I like the RPU w/out hood sides too....jmho.
Looking great! I always look at your posts...you guys do some amazing work. I am sure you posted this, but what rear suspension did you use? Neal
Just can't express how much I admire your (Ionia Hot Rod Shop) work! This car doesn't fit any standards...it creates NEW ones! It will be every bit as stunning and breathtaking as ****era's Cad T and silver roadster were back in their day...setting yet a NEW benchmark for current and future generations of car crafters to aspire to. Absolutely beautifull work...as always! You're right...**** deadlines...keep going as you have been, and the finished car will rule the world!
Wow! I'm floored! I love all the little touches. It has an aviation feel to it, like a WWII fighter. I hope I get to see it in person.
your right about that. it's just AMAZING! to see it in person is SOOOO much better than the pics too. there are details that have to be seen to be believed, and the fit and finish is second to NONE. great job guys.
Nice! Since you aren't going o make the deadline anyway, you might as well come down here for the Gayrodzz South meeting.
Hell yeah Matt! You should come hang at plowboys this weekend, since you dissapeared on us in Indy! I've admired your guy's stuff in magazines long before I met you, you guys are trend setters, I say screw the rat rods, well put together traditional cars are always better to look at, and you got that down. Your frame over at Indy blew me away. Looking forward to seeing you again.
Sounds like a gay ol' time I'd be going to Columbus if the wallet allowed it.....I'll think about you guy's though
I saw the ch***is in person and I'm sure pictures don't do the rest of that truck justice. Everybody needs to see this one in person. Great job guys and thanks for posting the pics Matt.
Actually Matt, you're a pretty good photographer... couple of those are really sweet pics. It's been a long time, cant wait till it's done, PARTY ! Leigh
