One bank gets the cooled water from the radiator, heats it, and dumps it into the other bank--doesn't seem like a good deal for the downstream cylinders...

  2. iF YA HAVE TO DO SOMETHING WACKY- WHY NOT USE THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRAME RAIL AS A "HOSE"/COOLANT TANK and A RADIATOR IN THE BED.....THE EXTRA COOLANT AND CONVECTION FACTOR MAY HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TO LET HIM DRIVE IT SOME MORE! [IMG]

  3. Well, I got to give him credit. He drives that thing. He drove from Salt Lake City to the HOTROD-A-RAMA in Tacoma Wa. last year. Had a crowd around it all weekend. In fact a couple of those pics are at the "Rama". Word is, the lil' scrapper is heading back to T-Town in August. Caused quite a stir in thesr parts. Care to join us?

I would say from SLC Ut. to Tacoma Wa was a fair distance, it only took me about 20 some hours. Yes Eddy is right, it's a driver, I recognize the place in the picks too, I was there, seen it drive. My hat is off to that crazy SOB, I looked at it for about an hour, and thought "Wow, I wish I had the balls to drive something like that bastard around the block, let alone from SLC" It looked realy spooky, but I was in awe at the same time. It gave me the creeps, but it's one of my favorites. Geniune wildman!

I noticed the belt running on the crossover but I wasn't going to say anything. In that newest picture I wonder if it's even running a belt at all? Maybe it's just running an electric pump(s) and moved the generator/alternator to a different spot - eliminating belts altogether. Sounds like he has the driveability issues fixed. I think that truck is so rad. Seems like he's taken his idea, made it work, and continues to refine it. I know I'm in the minority but the lack of grille shell is one of the coolest parts of it. The big wheels rule. That thing looks like fun. I'm jealous.

hey grim, I talked with these guys for quite a while at chrr last year, neat car, nice guys. other than the unusual cooling setup, I cant get over the wheels, they are 21's with V8 centers, but they do not look like A hoops. He claims they were a ford factory wheel for export only, and that they came from Brazil. I am looking for at least a pair for my T.

I have thought about running big wheels on my car. Biggest Ford wires I can find are 18" (of course) and those are only 3 1/4" wide which kind of limits my tire size. SoWhat had a picture of some 20" Ford solids that looked basically like 1940 wheels. I thought he said they came from Brazil?

Grim, I've got a set of 20 inch '29 Lincoln wheels that I'm not going to use. IIRC they are 4.5 inches wide. Looking at Coker I was going to run a 28 inch tall tire up front and a 34 or 32 inch tall in back. The bolt pattern is an odd size, but nothing that can't be overcome.

I don't want to sound like a jerk,
but was it honestly driven the whole way,
or trailered and dumped off a couple blocks away,
like alot of KK show cars.

My deepest respect to the driver if you did the 20 hours...

    tp aka zibo

Also, there are some 20 inch commercial rims that came on
model AA/AR and up to '34 trucks that are kinda cool but heavy, with a bigger bolt pattern though...

I love that F-1 (51-2) dash in that thing. He was telling stories of the trip, I have no reason not to believe him, his face looked a little wind burned too [IMG]

Hey whats up fellas? This is my first post on this site. My name is Kris from the Throttlers of Salt Lake. My buddy Deek and I have been watching this post and have got quite a kick out of it. You see, the truck in question is his. We built it in the course of one month. The wheels are stock Ford. They are export wheels from South America. The wheels were on a car that one of our club members had imported up from there. The old tires that were on them had Spanish writing ... crazy!! Yes it has a radiator in the bed, an electric water pump, and one sharp-eyed reader spotted the idler pulley disguised as a water pump on the front of the engine. Both cylinder banks are cooled at the same time.. not one before the other. The inlets and outlets are "Y'ed" together, just like the intake manifold and water pump do on a conventional modern engine. You ask why the rear mounted radiator... well it's nothing new... we had seen a few old pics of some old salt flat / dry lake cars with a rear mounted radiators. This was done so that a more wind-cheating nose could be added to the front of the car. He did it for that reason, not to mention, all the shock value and gossip a street driven rear radiator hot rod causes. As far a driveability... well as you would expect from a car put together in one month, it had some bugs to be worked out. Therefore the truck was seen more than one time on the side of the road, but now it's a runner. We drive the holy crap out of our cars... and yes, even from SLC to T-town Washington. Thanks for all of the interest guys... it's cool when something that you have put so much time and thought into causes people to talk and take notice. We will have all of the "Throttlers" hot rods at VIVA LAS VEGAS this Easter weekend.. hope to talk to some of you out there!

I think the rear rad. is cool as hell.If it had a cut down A shell It would still be cool but it wouldn't get a 3 page thread.

  16. L/Pedal, welcome, love those litle fun cars.

For the Newbie bashers, ya better post a intro (ie Hi, I'm loud pedal, this is my car etc blah blah), although I'd just point em back to this thread.

Again, welcome, love the car, love the attitude.

    Cheers,

Yep, thats mine. The pic I have posted is when I was running a SBC. I put a 331 Chrysler in it last October. Now it's running 6x2 strombergs on a vintage log manifold, sans hood and side panels.

  25. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....it really does make sense to put a big ass radiator anywhere but up in front where it's oogly and causes mega wind resistance. I think I like this new feller.
Loud pedal, you not only think "outside the box", you put your radiator into that empty box... What kinda sheetmetal do you have planned for the front? The nosecone could be small as hell...can you just imagine a 36 ford horn cover for a grille? Yeow!...........welcome to the HAMB...

    I like it. A lot!

I do agree that a grill shell of some sort would make it make more sence to me(you know how you get used to things and when their off kilter, they look weird?) But I think its a very well thougth out and excuted pickup. And to think that it only took them a month to put it together?!?!? Wow!

An empty grill shell (cut down to match the body line)like Root has on the Fly would make it flow more TO ME........But.....

Like a girl with a homley face and a awesome body, I sure wouldnt kick it out of my driveway. [IMG] [IMG]
