Cackle Cars at 66 this weekend. Everyone fired up filling the air with nitro fumes. They are all original cars.
I’m sure glad that some folks are willing to do/spend what it takes to build and run these Cackle Cars. As much as I love old G***ers and Funny Cars, old style front engine dragsters are my perennial favorites. Full bodied or short, fancied up or basic, as long as that engine is in front of the driver and has a blower on it, it’s *****in’ Now if they would only let them push start and run to the eighth mile….
Thanks Brian. I live for this sh#t. FEDs are in my dreams at night and my thoughts during the day light. CACKLE ON! Was Mcdonald around? He is a great cackle car tuner.
Wow. Thats some real nice iron i wouldn't have expected to see at the '66 nationals this weekend. I hope the turnout there is good enoughto get that place back up running full time! So how did you coupe run?
The Friday crowd was not overwhelming. Only the stands on the pit side (south) was open for spectators. I'm sure many, like me were put off by having to pay for a reserved seat, rather than the general admission fee. Lots of new track records set Friday, as the racer technology has advanced since the last race at the track four years ago. My prediction, we won't have an NHRA touring event there next year. I hope I'm wrong.
Engines running nitromethane don't like to start very easily. So, the little tank, (this one above the injector) is partially full of plain ol gasoline (normally). A valve is used to switch to open the little tank to get the gas flow into the engine. Shortly after the engine starts, the valve is closed, and the normal fuel pump will push the nitro/methanol mix into the engine and the little tank is removed. THEN...the pounding fun starts ! Mike
Mike, we use to have a squirt bottle of gas to start and the warm up tank was alky on our A/F car. Lippy.
Mike VV, that's kind of what I figured. I've seen the squirt bottle but I never saw a tank mounted like this. Thanks!
I'm calling ******** on that mph. Compared to the times/ speeds a bunch of the blown extended cars and floppers were running at that time there's nfw.
