This weekend I raced one of the cars....

apparentlly lots of guys were running radials...

I have all sorts of rubber on my quarters from the burn out box and am having a bitch of time getting it off....Ive heard in the past to use a petroleum based solvent (like a bug and tar remover), but, that isnt working....

Does anyone have any ideas? Thought of using acetone, but, decided this evaporates too quickly and is too abrasive for a single stage paint.

    thanks,
    pete

shake up a bottle of Coca-Cola® and spray it on the detritus. Let it sit a little while, and then it should come off.

I've used WD-40 with success, as well as citrus oil.

Rubber on your 1/4s is a sign of manlyness and the chicks sure seem to dig it. I say leave it.

    -Abone.

PS. What did your car run?

  9. Badge of honor! But next time smear a wee bit of vasoline on your .lower quarter before the box. Try a crepe wheel , the kind for removing stickers, in your drill. Stay away from hot solvents!!!

OR get you some of that blue masking tape and tape em off.

  11. I use to spray my lower quarters with Pam, before I hit the burn out box. Worked great....

Or do like dirt trackers sometimes do and put some tranny fluid and diesel fuel in a spray bottle and spray em down prior to take off.

Try gasoline on a rag, it has always worked for me.

And to 345 DeSoto with the Pam tip, I agree. vaseline smeared on the lower quarters works as well. The only catch is that you have to add the Pam or vaseline to the quarters BEFORE you go out & spend the day playing.

  23. I use Eagle One wheel cleaner, just make sure it is for painted wheels. Works great for removing bugs too...

Leave it ,it looks pretty sexy to me .I wash my Drag car occasionally but i got to great lengths not to disturb the melted tire rubber on the lower 1/4's and edges of the rear bumper :) ...

I should have lied...yes indeed....thats embarassing to write, and my reaction time was even more bogus (.3, .4 and so on). my first go of it for the year...

well, in the past, Ive always at least put wax on the quarters or ive put on the blue tape, but this time, my plans were to go to the drags with my woman and just park my car in the show...then when I got there, I was like, what the f**K, Im at the drags and NOT going to race????!!!!

    anyway, I raced....

had loads of compound and other guys rubber on the car. The WD-40 did the trick...worked great....way better than the bug and tar cleaner. The coke did not work for me....

Try the gooey, snot hand cleaner. used this in the past and it worked well. I stilluse it to remove bugs / tar during wash and wax time.

lay a heavy coat of wax on your quarters before hitting the track, I used good old paste turtle wax cause it was cheap but you have to look at the white haze, you could try the newer turtle wax that supposedly doesnt haze black exterior trim. I have a few friends that swear by it for late model cars but i cant bring myself to use it.
