Could you or Kayla share some tips on how to correctly apply the coats of varnish ?? Thanks a bunch in advance.
The holes appear to be smaller than a pinky finger to me. I don't think he will have any issues with it.
My comment on the steering wheel was more a aesthetic issue, the bulk of the truck kind of fits together prety good but imho the steering wheel looks like it should be in a high school boom, fart ,Honda ....your worksmanship is nice 40 ,glad you kept the Flaty! Hi 40Ford.Looking good so far.Keep the updates coming.Black walnut bed looks GREAT.And you`re right there`s only one way to apply varnish correctly. My Father was a painter for almost 50 years before he retired.Put down hundreds of gallons of the stuff. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
Here is the varnish technique she was taught. My bed boards are roughly 5-6" wide. A video would probably be easier to demonstrate, but here goes an attempt. Apply varnish to wood across the grain one brush width and then apply another brush width . Then wipe from the DRY area to the WET area and feather as you wipe. REPEAT this same technique all the way down the board. All coats are done this way. Lightly sand with 400 after first sealer coat and between all coats. Wipe each board with a TAC rag before each coat. First coat - was a 50-50 mix of Spar Varnish and Mineral Spirits. This was just to seal the wood. Second coat - apply Varnish full strength. I hope this isn't confusing? Can we upload videos on the HAMB?
I'm not hooked on that steering wheel. It was free and I needed something just to steer it with. Suggestions?
