I think any of us building period cars are restorers to an extent. This is just a Pebble Beach quality version.

    Kinda reminds me of this.

    Very nice!!!

Mr. The Gooch, what's the skinny on why we can't see pictures of his customers cars? I guess it's not real obvious to me.

No, its more that the Coahuila Truck became it's own worst enemy and the next car he built blows the doors off of it. The catch is, the owner never wants anyone to post shots of it. Those of you who have seen it (Axle, Luke Jivetalker, Ryan, Crease... probably all of Crease's friends, Pete) think that its a damn shame no one will see that car but we all understand why. The term RudyPalooza comes to mind.

Think about this, the Kennedy brothers and Rudy all went to the same high school together.... can you imagine that shop class? .....actually, I take that back, Rudy was probably out by the dumpster drinking booze and cruising chicks.

Here's a detailed shot of the stock motor mounts and old stock tiger's tail plug wires. This car is white gloves all the way.

Those mounts are 1932 only, and are now really hard to find and pricey. The outfit called "We're only '32" or something like that makes new ones. They mount to the four holes that are drilled and tapped on all flatheads, but which were only used on the first and last production years! 1953 trucks also used those holes...
A few early '33's used similar but shorter mounts.
With original ones to copy, it would be easy to make a set by bending the basic curve into a piece of 1/4" steel plate and then welding on a flange to brace it. This could come out looking a great deal loke the original forging...
By the way, the outfit that makes the repro mounts also makes a number of other problem solver parts for '32's and A-V8's. Does any one have a postable catalog for them?

  5. Paul is right, this thing is so far beyond bitchin that it's crazy, I've never been one to not drive a car, but this thing actually is that damn nice.

  6. Bruce -- can you post more info on the "Only 32" folks? I'm looking for a catalog that'll make my chassis come out looking like Rudy's [IMG] [IMG]

maby I am missing something here, but the fact that somebody does not want their car to be seen is one of the most iddiotic things I have ever heard.

are they waiting to debut the car as some special show?

are they driving and enjoying the car? or is it sitting is their garage where nobody can see it besides their friends?
whats the point? if it cant be seen why build the fucking thing?

Definitly one fine chassis. If the rest of the car measures up (and there is no reason to believe it won"t) then Rudy has hit another home run.

What a stunner! Old-school perfection rendered with skill and restraint -- the definitive Deuce chassis, for sure!

Hope you don't mind, Gooch, but I'm downloading the images to my reference files. I'll use them only for my own education and enjoyment. TIA, and thanks for sharing Rudy's work.

dude, I dont make the news I just report it. The truck is the baddest thing ever built. It sits in a garage and never sees the light of day. ever. The owner wanted the best, most radical car Rudy could build and he got it. He built it for himself. Plus, dont you think it's kinda cool that there is some bad ass car hiding out somewhere? Besides, the two of them are like brothers and I dont question their reasons.

I will say that it takes about a half hour to climb in and out of it [IMG]

Actually my list should be longer, copshopcoupe and Steve Coonan saw it... too bad he cant print it.

  11. AV8, do whatever you want with those pictures and feel free to call him and take more for yourself if you get down his way in Fullerton.
Your book is just out of camera range in most of those shots.

What color is that motor? Can't tell - is it a copper? That's not the Ford Bronze that was used in 51(?) or so, is it? Really like it.

There are thousands of really outstanding cars that are owned by people who virtually never show them off.

I've worked for the people in California that are the world's most highly-respected restorers of early Bentleys and Rolls-Royces. They build cars that are shown at Pebble Beach, and they have never placed any lower than First. (After I color-sanded a Bentley for them with 1,000-grit and then with 2,000-grit, the man did it again, with a garden hose and the palm of his hand.) Their shop doesn't have a sign, and their number is unlisted. Their clients are quite wealthy and may never drive their cars once they're done. For them, that's not the point. Like the owners of the finest collections of vintage Grand Prix cars, Indy cars, sprint cars, factory lightweight muscle cars, and paintings by the likes of Rembrandt, ownership is based on an appreciation for them as art, and in many cases, irreplacable, one-off art, and their owners are secure enough not to feel the desire to try to impress people by showing them off.

If any of you really can't understand that, go buy a Rembrandt, and cruise around town with it in the back of your truck.

    Gooch,

Ya kinda threatened to hunt me down and kill me if I showed the pics to anyone. However, I figured it was worth a bullet to the head, those were some kick ass pictures. Love that freakin truck. The motor was the coolest part of it. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

No problem--fifty bucks worth of goodies from "only '32" and a gallon of Rustoleum and both of our deuce chassis will look just like that...

    'We are only '32", M.E.C., 3284 S. Main Street, Akron, Ohio, 44319
    330-644-3450

They make the mounts, '32 clutch levers, a variety of brake pedal adaptors, flathead water inlet offsets and manifolds, three window ash trays (!), and a bunch of neat detail parts for '32 and A-V8 builders.

I can't help noticing that the front mounts haven't been notched. If you use those with the later lower water pumps the belt hits them on the bottom. Those mounts were made to fit with the in-head pumps. We had ours all chromed when we put the belt on and discovered it.I had to grind a clearance notch in both and have them re-chromed, just a thought.--TV
