Rudy's at it again...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 3wLarry, Apr 22, 2006.

  1. Are you for real? Just a few examples;

    Billy Gibbons' *****in 32 roadster
Black 29 roadster on deuce rails, R&C cover last month
    Mike Zenor's 23 T
Rebuild of Paul Hoffman's old lakes/drag car
    40 Mercury

    Just to name a few..........

Here's some more pics of others with the same chop. How can you not like it??

  3. Dunno. It looks overdone in the front. I love a chopped 34, don't get me wrong, but look close at the relationship between the windshield opening and the side window in both vintage pics. The edge of the windshield is straight, while the side opening comes to a distinct point. If that opening detail related to the windshield, it would seem more "correct" IMHO. Plus, with that aggressive chop, it makes the roof look flatter.

Look at this example which seems like a nicer chop.

    I know, I know, I'm splitting gnat's hairs.

I don't think it's fair to compare 3 window chops and 5 window chops personally. But yeah, that is one of the baddest 3 windows of all time, IMO.

  6. ... and didn't he recently finish a black lacquer & copper flathead coupe? Besides having one of the best eyeballs for proportion and stance, Rudy is very prolific - having built, by my count, at least 8 topnotch cars in the last 5 years. In his garage.

BTW Skip, my Rudy-built T just recently went to a new owner in Vancouver BC.

I like the car. The chop looks cool and I dig the way it sits. But damn Luke, chill out. Not everyone likes to swing on Rudy's nuts at every opportunity. And as hard as it is to believe, some people still might not even know who he is.

  8. Sorry. I know it's unfair to put a 5 window up to a 3 window. Just looking at the post area in both cars.

    But. . . I wouldn't kick that eB*y car outta the driveway. . . .

Hey, I think that's the 33 running gear I hauled to Cali from east Texas a couple years ago. Can you believe a guy bought a nice 33 sedan, hauled it from Sioux Falls S.D. then hacked it up to put it on a TCI frame.
And for those who didn't understand what more finnesse means, it's like done I guess, not cheapo flex radiator hoses, and God forbid..paint. Oh, my did I say that word? Yes I am used to seeing Rudy's cars painted. But I guess that is sacreligious to some who go out of their way to make a car look not painted.

dont get me wrong, that is a nice car but the price is crazy. it is currently 26000....thats nuts. a chopped highboy 34 with a 47 flathead for 26000? im sorry but thats insane, dont get me wrong i dont blame rudy for wanting to make some money (more power to him actually) but how could someone pay 26000 for that. before you guys start busting my balls, im not bad mouthing rudy i just find it crazy that someone would bid that much for that car, and anybody on here who builds their own cars can build that for much much less (and dont tell me you cant)

I like most of what Rudy does, but not this one. My guess is he really didn't care for how it turned out, and rather than spend a lot of time to fix it, he decided to unload.

Seems like a lot of people get off on whole celebrity builder/hero worship thing. I've never understood that.

I really like the look of the car. The thoughts have gone through my head that have been posted already too but they make the car work. I'm not really sure why the front end was left stock (whoever buys it should change that) but the rear is a little high so it still has a rake to it.

A couple things to consider for that price.... The cost of a steel 33 with frame and flathead motor ~12k + ~2/3k. The cost of having that guy chop a car for you (~4k??). Adding them together, plus wheels and the seat, you would probably be around 20 grand, maybe a bit more. Because of the guy building it, maybe add a couple, so I figured it would end at $25k tops.

I took a good long look when the reserve was met at $15. Because that's a pretty affordable car at $15. But soon enough it took off again. I can't believe it's at $30k with 5 days to go. What ever happened to go ol sniping at the last minute? A bunch of people must really want that car.

  18. That guy's got pockets deeper than mine.

Probably carries his nuts around in a wheelbarrow too.

you should see what my buddy built for $6000 Canadian, it would make you **** your pants. A 28 A sedan with 48 drivetrain, completely done (body all patched and straight)minus the interior and is wearing a new coat of flat black. So i look at his car and i look at this and it doesnt add up to me. Plus you can pick up a stock unrestored 33 for less than 12k if you look hard enough.

Kinda tragic because he tried to sell the black roadster for over a year and had to cut the price way more than necessary to sell it. If anybody wanted a "Rudy car" it should have been the roadster. He builds quality stuff and that reputation is what helps the price of this coupe.

The difference between a 28 sedan and a 33 coupe is immeasurable on many levels. If it doesn't add up for you then it just doesn't. I can't help that.

And while there is something to the name of the guy who built it, I think the main reason his cars bring so much is because they just look like damn cool cars. And fact is he didn't get that mystique which surrounds his name by building ill-proportioned cars with shoddy workmanship.

I was typing the same thing, but Kevin beat me to it.

    A model A is not a 33/34.

i know that a model a is not a 33 boys, i was just giving an example of what can be done with much less cash, and i NEVER said anything bad about the car or Rudy's craftsmanship i know the man does great work. all im saying is that for 30000 you could build 2 (or more) of those in your garage.

  26. I'm not swingin' on anyone's nuts, Rudy is a good friend of mine and deserves all the credit he gets, and then some. I didn't get excited, I simply stated a few of the noteworthy cars he's built in the past 5 years.

I wasn't talking about you - I kind of figured you were good friends since you have pictures of his stuff before it hits ebay.

Just saying it's reasonable that not everyone follows his work, that's all. But I do agree he deserves anything he gets. I'm stoked for anyone who can hang it out, do what they love, and end up taking care of a home, family, or whatever they need to.

I'm a little jealous actually - providing for a kid changes your outlook on a lot of things.

I have a fair amount of equity in my house... I will buy every '33/34 stock unrestored coupe you can find me for $13k...

Look what else is for sale. I saw this at the Roundup. Didn't know it was a Gas Monkey car.

    34 three window

I agree that it can be built for less. But he's not offering it for sale on the HAMB to a HAMBer is he?

  29. I'll take the ones Django doesn't want!

Kevin- I understand about not everyone following him, I took it a different way, sorry 'bout that, as for kids, Rudy's 2 sons are the reason that he does what he does, he used to have a "real job" but **** happens and now he builds hot rods full time instead of just the weekend ;)
