Not sure if this has been done before or not but I keep looking at this '51 plymouth and thinking, why not? Has anyone ever, or know anyone who has ever "added" a rumble seat into a car. Or if you have any other ideas of what to do with it I'd love to hear them. I just got the thing and I can't start it untill spring so I have plenty of time to dream.

Man, where did you ever get that car!!! Awesome!!!

  5. That car is the one and only "High and Mighty". It was the very first car campagned by the Ramchargers team back in 1959-60. The Ramchargers formed as a loose amalgamation of Chysler engineers like Tom Hoover to test and develop heavy duty and race parts and have fun because they all really liked cars and racing. They started out using their own cars and then proposed running a team racecar.
"High and Mighty" was a 48 Plymouth business coupe with a 57 Chrysler 392. The engine was set up high to facilitate weight transfer to rear to get the hard compound slicks of that era to hook up on the track. The intake is a prototype long ram with 2 afbs sitting up top just under what could only be a public address speaker turned air scoop.

The headers were stolen from a steam powered calliope owned by a French-Canadian traveling circus one night in Hamtramck the result of an after hours drinking party at Dodge Main.

Okay, I made that last part up regarding the theft and all.

The headers were the natural result of so much brain power tapping into to the Super Ego. Inspired by God.

A real feverdream huh? The original is gone but the same guys built a clone that is now part of the collection at the Walter P. Chrysler museum. And it has the original scoop!

I'm rather fond of it myself.

At the risk of sounding like a restorer, I think it would be a shame to "bastardize" such a cool car. That looks like a solid candidate for a hot rod.

Get a 4 dr and cut the roof off...instant rumble seat...easier to do and you save a cool body style for somebody else. I have always loved this body style even years ago when they weren't nearly as popular as they are today. They only existed for a few years. Just my worthless opinion.
