Does anyone know of a good transmission shop in the San Jose, CA area? My '50 Plymouth 3 speed manual needs a new clutch at least, if not an entire overhaul. And I'm not familiar enough with manual transmissions to do it myself.
New clutch is not that hard if you have the tools and and a friend. If you jack the back of the car up, do the wheels spin with the car in gear? When you let off the clutch, on ground, does it stall out or just not move? Any grinding noises?
I've only tried driving it once. Basically you put it in gear, give it some gas, it rolls for about 2 to 3 feet then sits at a stand still. the previous owner drove it a few times short distances, and said he always started out in 2nd, skipped 1st all together.
