I've not used a Smart MC before so it's going to be a "suck it and see".
But if does work I'll do a Tech on it.
You'd pay 5 times as much for a Made in China aftermarket set up. I'm very wary of aftermarket parts, especially safety relevant parts. Obviously the Smart part is 100 times better built.
We 'll see. Maybe it won't work.

This is the Smart brake pedal. I flipped and shortened the box and mounted it on the left X-rail. The floor board will cover up the box and most of the rubber boot too.

Why not use a TH 350 transmission with the BOP& Chevy bolt pattern? Don't know how rare they are, but I found one for my modified.

Because of the power and weight of the engine, I didn't want to simply add little mounts on each sice of the frame. Remember this is a riveted open channel frame with a riveted in X-member. I wanted an engine cradle. So in keeping with the '40-'48 Ford/Mercury frame concept, I dug out a '48 front crossmember and started looking at it. It needed narrowing of course, about 1" per side, then fitted nicely. The lower engine mounts are made out of the cut off '32 front frame horns - waste not - want not!

As you can see I'll have to fill the holes in the inner X in a couple of places to enable me to bolt the cradle in place.

The RH mount on the Buick is further forward than the LH making a slightly different lower mount necessary. I used the original Buick engine mounts.

And here we have it. Engine securely mounted using only old parts. I'm decided to use a Unisteer rack up front and will mount it on this crossmember. Later the crossmember will get lightening holes but first I need to mount the steering box.

Well I've used them before and I like them. They give a nice positive steering feel. Also it seems to fit the available space best. The left hand engine mount sits where a Vega or Ford side steer box would need to sit, and there's no room for an F1 or F100 either.

    P ontiac = "not BOP"?

What bolt pattern did the Nailheads have? Chevy, Ford, Chrysler? I'm confused!

wingnutz BOP is a later version of stud pattern. think more 455 Olds, Buick etc. the Nailhead is the same era as the 324 rocket Olds, they don't interchange. I don't know 100% but think that the BOP was late 60's
