Greetings again HAMBers!.... I have a REALLY NICE survivor FORD pickup with a tiny bit of rust through bubbles showing on a fender...I really don't want to have to redo the paint....this truck only sees water when it wash it and I'm wondering how you guys have made out trying to slow or stop the spread with inhibitors....yes, I KNOW the BEST way is cut it out and Weld New in....but I don't want to paint it...
The rust is under the paint. If you have a bubble the rust will be a larger area than what you see. Just putting something in that spot won't slow down the rust.
^^^^I agree. In fact, putting the wrong stuff on that area may actually increase the destruction process.
Yeah, you either call it "patina" and live with it or do a proper repair & paint. Anything in between is a waste of time.
Slowing the spread will not affect how it looks now, nor how much work it takes to fix it later. Live with it.
Friend of mine runs a hot-rod/custom shop, one day some locals brought in an F-1 Ford that needed a good bit of rust repair. Of course the owners didn't want the pickup to look like it had leprosy with primer spots here and there but they also didn't want to spring for a new paint job so after the repairs were completed the truck was sent to a paint supplier for a color match, the surprising part being after the paint had cured and buffed out no one could tell where the truck had been fixed.
