You will never be able to remove it all. Just get the worst and use a good etch primer and maybe Picklex before priming. The picklex and the etch primer will neutralize it and then you just go from there. Picklex can be found on the website 286merc listed.
Check out a product at www.orisonllc.com called evapo rust. It is harder to use on these large items because you cannot let the solution evaoprate. You can use a sponge or something close to it soaked in the solution and cover it with suran wrap or somethin similar. The solution is enviromentaly friendly and non toxic. It may help you out. Shawn
I checked out that Orison website and this EvapoRust product looks good if it works like they say. I wonder how many gallons I'd need to dip my Merc?
My advice to you would be to get a 8"DA type sander, put some 40 grit paper on it and strip it that way. When ya have it stripped get a quart of Rust-Mort,follow the instructions, and for the most part you'll have your rust problem licked.BUT,you also have to remember, rust usually starts on the inside of the panels.
EvapoRust works just as good as they say. I bought a gallon of it...it didn't last as long as I had hoped (I just used it as a dip) but I probably should have cleaned the grease and dirt off my parts better first. I was seriously amazed by it. The first part I did was a really fine-threaded bolt that had been completely covered in rust, I mean REALLY rusty... I let it sit for a day, took it out, rinsed it off, and it was perfectly clean shiny metal, there wasn't even a tiny bit of rust left in the threads. I highly recommend it! Even leaving a similar bolt in an expensive little jar of naval jelly won't get it nearly as clean, it'll destroy any good parts of the metal, and it hurts your hands.
fastcat thank you i went to the stripper to day he wonted $500 to 2-doors 2--fenders and some smale part's.thank you i think i might get 30gal's and dip my door's

Been a month and nothins comin through and thats only with one coat. The shit rocks.
What about soaking the fenders in Muriadic Acid??? I used it to clean my nuts and bolts, it does not do anything to oils or grease or paint. At a dollar a gallon it is a good price!! But I have to waera mask because the shit is nasty!!
