The paintjob looks pretty darn good . My Rust-Oleum paintjob is holding up pretty good , even being used as a daily driver for the last couple years . I get positive comments on it all the time . If I decide to repaint/restore it , I'll strip it down & re-shoot it with proper auto paint . Till then , it suits my needs 100% .

I agree...I left dings, dents, creases in the body (Charactor to me!)...so putting a cheap paint job on this project fit perfectly.

If I just spent a few hundred hours getting the body perfect...it would of gotten one of PIMPIN PAINTS 12-20K jobs! The car is a driver...don't want to be all nervious about my 20K paint job getting scratched every where I'd go!

Well received at shows. Could not detect that it was spray bombs. Satin R/O. 3 years old and not garaged. Easy to touch up when needed.

Cool hotrod, What type of spray gun did you use and what size tip to spay the rustoleum. I've had trouble spraying small parts with a HVLP gun using rustoleum and hardener thinned as per directions , the paint seemed too thick.
    Thanks

I think it looks great. I painted the roof of my Acadian with rattlecan gloss white and added craft store glitter to give it a bit of a metalflake finish. It turned out not too bad for about a cost of 25 bucks. Isn't this hobby about trying to do everything that you can by yourself or with friends at a good price...

I luuuuuv it! I live in the country, on gravel roads, so you know I'm lookin' closely at this. It looks real-world...and in the real world, they get scratched. Thanks Mr. Cool, for the color-mix info too.

No HVLP gun for me....used my ol' DEVILBIS siphon feed gun with a 1.8 tip.

One more thing I forgot to add is that with the 1 hour or so dry time...the paint seems to flatten out (not luster-the ways it lays) pretty darn smooth for Rustoleum!

Found this picture I took the day I shot the color. Color looks lighter here do to the flash, but you can see the finish a little better.

The picture is a little GRAINY do to the crappy camera...but you'll get the overall idea anyway.

    That came out awesome!

Me and MBL painted his roadster with Rustoleum a few years ago, and it still looks good and glossy! It's out in the weather all the time to.

It's been in like 4 magazines, including Hot Rod Deluxe, and Traditional Rod & Kulture Illustrated.

    pretty slick

wonder what 2 cans of black gloss and one can of flat will produce?
or a 50/50 of gloss and flat?
or what their semi gloss looks like after it settles out?
I dont have 6k..7k..or even 12 k to spend on a coating for my project, but i sure dont want it to rust or go to hell just because i dont have the Cha Ching to paint it right. Seems like a dooable alternative..

i wouldnt think of painting over it anyways, if i ever decided to paint it with something else , all the previous coating would come off anyways

Problem is it'll lift and wrinkle at feathered edges if you shoot anything but alkyd enamel, and even then it'll bite ya. Although, it's supposed to look old, right?:D

I painted my frame with r/o and it looks good after 3 weeks in the weather. How much hardener did you use? any particular brand? we used mineral spirits to thin and a hvlp gun. your color is really good, as well as the car. Thanks for sharing all the tips, and pics.

WOW! This thread is RAD!!! I'm sure Jon Kosmoski just crapped his pants! Paint it with a brick and touch it up with a broom...:D OH YEAH.

  20. man, that color came out nice!

  21. I like to thin with Zylene because it dries much faster, seems like it will never dry with Mineral Spirits. Haven't tried Acetone, it's probably pretty hot, too.

  22. I'll bet 50% of the people who read this thread are going to paint something with Rustoleum in the next year.

This thread had 2 stars when I took a look at it...please. The paint job on your car looks great. 2 stars...

I painted the frame of my brothers 54 Chevrolet Pickup with R/O and it still looks great after two years. The wifes 51 Pontiac is getting the same treatment next weekend. With the other half a gallon.

Where did you buy the paint from a hardware store or auto paint shop and is it best to gun spray or can spray.

Looks good to me. I've already had my colors mixed for awile now, waiting to get my body work done. IH white mixed 1:2 w/white makes a good offwhite color. Than royal blue 50/50 w/ white for my light blue.

What percentage was it thinned out to spray? Especially w/mineral spirits? Anybody?

I like it. The color is great. The car looks good to me. When I build my track rat I thimk I will go this route. Frugality always works for me. I like doing things on a tight budget! Thanks for sharing!
