The car looks great- now think about taking a 3inch section from the body-
should not take you more than a day or so the rate you go- keep up the good work. Thanks for showing all of us what can be done.Jim

Steve.. great as usual! Window looks sharp.
I just got back from CB.
I'm going back again the 1st week of August to (among other things) bring the A frame, tranny and cowl home (plus a straight-six BMW engine, tranny and independent rear suspension..who knows what that will be used for).
I have a long way to go to come anywhere close to where you are.
    Keep on keepin on!
Oh.. heat? It's even hot in Yarmouth! Amazing.

Yes.. I know.... I have 3 weeks in August that are MINE (well.. I HOPE they are mine) starting the 2nd week. Until then.. grrrrr.

Keep tellin me to get my butt in gear. I might get around to it again.

But you make me tired just reading about the work you have done.

A 3" section would be major custom but your other half may suggest you put that energy into the car in the next booth. ;)

Luuuv droppin' by here every couple of weeks or so to check your progress. The quarter-windows look great. Nice to see that Rikster and others are giving you some good input. May I make a suggestion, koolkemp?...as far as the rounded door-corner goes, you might consider using a slightly smaller radius than Rikster shows in his photoshop, and which is in-fact exactly as a couple of the customs shown are modified. I think that to have a constant cross-section as shown in that area tends to make it look like a big piece of bent pipe, and that sometimes a little "conflict of line" can be a good thing. I wouldn't go too much smaller though, 'cause a fairly large radius there serves as a good "loft" or transition from the top of the quarter-window to the top of the door. As always, keep up the great work. Really looking forward to seeing you drive and show this awesome Resurection. - Rick

Thanks but I have one side well on its way ! my train of thought was to keep the same general "thickness" in the curve as the rest of the door top. I had to make a structure to replace the void left by the removal of the rusty driprail too, I am pretty happy with how its turning out and will post some pics tonight or tomorrow, I am heading out to the shop in a few mins to get back at er! The pass quarter window is all done and installed now as well.

    Hey Steve...
    Looking forward to update pics.
I'll be de-rusting a T door today with Evapo-Rust. I've decided to do the bucket I got from you.
Hope you have a productive weekend.

I am waiting patiently for some more progress pictures.

I just can't believe the work you put into saving this car and making it a coupe. Almost beyond comprehension. However, it does make the cars that to me prior looked un-savable, now look somehow savable.

    You have some ninja skills.

  17. With that trunk bracing it looks like your trying to add a ricer spoiler. Haha :D

  18. I am totally impressed. What a motivator. Good job Sir! I cant wait to see more.

Time for this weeks update...nothing too exciting but I did get a bunch of stuff done...finished up all the welding on the drivers side quarter window

...and decided to tackle the top of the door opening where the driprail was , these cars seem to have a large gap there...made even larger when you remove the rusty driprails !

here you can see the mismatch between the upper and lower portions of the A pillar width.

so after I cut off the remains of the driprail and used every type of abrassive I had to clean up the metal I started by tacking in a 48" piece of 3/16 rod

after a shitload of joining tack welds together it was starting to look better

I am liking the rounded door tops now too!

cleaned up all the welds on the window area and fine tuned the door gap along the the quarter panel with a little cutting and welding

So ALL of the chop related welding is done on the drivers side except for garnish moldings and I have to make a piece to ty the parcel tray frame back into the quarter window :D

I still had a little energy left this afternoon so I decided to start on the pass side door opening as well I started by rounding the door and cleaning off the remains of the drip rail and cleaning it all up

In the pic above you can see I had more gap than I wanted for the rear side of the door, so I started to add
ress that while I do the top of the opening.

This is where I ran out of energy lol this weeks goal is to try and get all the welding done on this door opening, finish all the chop related welding , and maybe get a bit of mud on the top ...next weekend will be hopefully repairing the top of the trunk opening and getting back on the repair (manufacture ?) of the trunklid , neither of which I am looking forward to but thats the worst rust repair left to do ...which I guess is a good thing !

You often make silly statements like that.
    Looks exciting to me!
