I mounted the motor in the frame and on the pass side the ram horn manifold would hit the control arm. So tried a stock 80`s stile manifold and that hit the control arm. Bill came to the rescue with a set of over the top manifolds and they had lots of clearance but the early 70`s heads never had the mounting bolt for the back of the manifold. So again Bill came to the rescue with a set of 84 305 high output heads that have that mounting hold.So now that this is all figure out I can move the engine where I want it and make mount!!

Steve, 3 hours one way of towing doesn't sound fun but who knows? It would be cool have it there. Come tow me up?

This is still one of the best builds on here to read. The Ford bumper pan ends were a good idea, gives it a more finished look. Flat steel all the way across tapered off on the ends would have looked homemade.

Thanks Squablow ! As I have mentioned before the feedback is a great motivational booster on those days when the enthusiasm is somewhat lacking lol! Its hard to explain but I have another pretty shitty pair of pan ends , I dont know if it will work yet (just a theory at this point) but I wanna see if I can cut the curved ends off and swap them side-side to roll them towards the underside of the car....kinda hard to explain but once I get the bumper off I will be able to tell if it might work,

    Steve,

Have you seen the new TRJ poster? Perfect sample for your '47 Ford... even though the one on the poster is a 1942 Ford.... and NO hood louvres!!!

I saw that ! I think you may actually end up with less original metal from the original Falcon , than I will have from the 4 door lol! Looking good though...will it maybe be mobile this year??

4ft of original frame, top driver 1/4 will be original, roof, hood and trunk are original,, rest is all new or made up. fenders are sectioned from donors, doors need replacing or lots of work done to them..

Im really hoping in primer by spring, and motor/tranny installed mid summer.. Just might get a chance to drive it this summer/fall

Haha I was waiting for you to get on my case over the louvers again  ...not to worry I have a couple of other hoods for it and will be restoring one of them for the car... the louvered hood will not be permanent ! Is there a link for the posters on TRJ site? I think you sent to me a while back, but I cant remember lol ! I hope you are gonna take a million pics when you are in California for the customs display, and do up a nice thread for those of us that are too poor to attend !

A bit of progress this weekend...Got the bumper off and used the second crappy pair of splash pan ends to widen them...

I then made a bottom with the edge folded over to give it some strength

Is the deal for the truck gonna work out in exchange for your labour? I was helping Flatheadfever for a few hours yest and today with some bodywork on his 52 Pontiac, with any luck he might be on the road by spring.

Thanks man! I had made plans to go help Lindsay after luch so I decided to start on molding in the rear fender. I really like the look of the heavily molded early customs ,as opposed to just welding the fender on and filling over the weld seam, so I cut a 2" stip for the fist piece, then 3 " after that...I used the solid handle of the pickle fork and a 3lb hammer to put the curves in the pieces by placing it over the open jaws of the vice, it turned out pretty good.

I should be able to get this side finish welded and ground down some night this week, maybe even get a skim of marglass over it to keep it from flash rusting till its warm enough to bondo it up !

That is probably a better way to weld up the fender. You would have to add that much filler to get that look. this way you use less filler and you have less chance of it cracking.
