Hell yeah, any time! Just post a pic or two and I'll give it a crack. In the meantime I'll research it a bit and maybe I can muddle something up.

Here's a quickie of what I think you have in mind. Are you planning on a stock '42 grill?

Wow what a difference !! That looks awesome !!! I dont have the 42 surround just the grille halves and center divider so it will be mu own home brewed surround...I really like the way Gil Ayalas was molded in (his didnt use the center divider though he cut up another grille to make it wider). You make that photoshop stuff look so easy!:D Thanks again eh!

Oh okay, I'll see what I can come up with when I get home from work tonite.

  7. Lookin good. have you thought of a colour yet?

You know? That grill would look good in there without the chrome suround. I see it floating in a space like the opening of a 49 Merc. An inny instead of an outy so to speek.

Looking good all around. I'm sure what you come up with will be cool.

It will probably be a sued or matt finish for the first year or so...I really want to put some Lincoln push buttons for door handles, but cant see myself affording them any time soon lol, so if I want to do more customizing mods I dont want to put the money into a real paintjob...as for color I have a few different ideas ...dark maroon , darker green metallic ,dark blue or I have even thought of shiny black..or copper metallic ..or or or well you get the idea!

Heres a pic of Gil Ayala's car from back in the day, I am thinking along these lines for the grille but with the center piece ...and I think a molded in but not too prominent surround...I think I have a better pic of the front of this car I will see if I can find it and post it,

In this last pic you can see the way the "surround" at the top of the grille is molded in and really smoothed in ...also the front splash pan is nicely frenched or smoothed in as well...sometimes its hard to see all the details in these old grainy pics ...but I still love them!

Here's an idea Steve. The top of the surround is molded in but flares out a little from the body and tapers at the ends, not sure what the actual terminology is. Kinda subtle but breaks up the front a little. I also sank the grill in a couple of inches. Eli

That looks fantastic ! It actually looks more "classy" than custom if that makes any sense ...which is how I think a custom based on this era needs to look....ya got me fired up good !! I dont suppose you feel like doing it all grey adding the skirts and lowering it a bit more :D I am gonna print this out at work this week on some nice cardstock and put it up in the shop for some inspiration !! Thanks again eh!

No probs, I'll get it done today. Are you going to French the headlights?

  15. Bingo! Go for that little body line in there between the hood that is sweet.

Great job OahuEli think you nailed.. If this picture dont put a fire under steve nothing will..

  21. Now maybe a dodad above that centre strip attached to the hood to cap that off. Just a cap maybe with a blunt end or a point. Not all the way up.

In the filled in version the two lines aren't as appealing as the one. I realise now, the two are there in the first one as well just hidden by the colour difference. The second line is sort of like a faint mustache on a model. IMO.

I like the stock looking headlight rings too.

Yeah I was looking at that double line, not so sure about it myself. I've got a straight on shot of the car and I'm going to try to address that. As for the doodad, I was wondering of Ford had a trim piece that would work, if I find anything I'll throw it on there.

Thanks fitzee, if this don't keep his ass warm this winter nothing will! :D

I cant remember what the Ford upper surround looks like under the chrome but I dont think it has a second line ...I have a lion hood ornament from a 47 Monarch that I am gonna use for some bling lol ,not much in the way of Monarch stuff around and I got 2 of these ornaments . I would like to use the ribbed Mercury headlight rings, unfrenched but I havent found a pair yet. For now it will still have stock door handles as well :D

  26. Something like this maybe, like a continuation of the centre piece of the grill. Could be carved out of aluminum.

  27. I'll have one up tommorow with the center section of the grill removed, the headlights frenched and it painted dark red. only question left is do you want it to have skirts?

Just remembered I added the second line to cover the original grill piece, not sure what the original setup is myself. I just realized I forgot the skirts, sorry bout that! Looking forward to what heavychevyboy comes up with, I think dark red would look good.
