Was wonderinf if there is a easy way to remove and treat exhaust pipes that have surface rust? The pipes are in good serviceable condition.

Drive the heck out of it and the heat from the engine will loosen the rust to a cetain extent

There are several good brands of high temp or exhaust paint. Clean off surface rust with steel wool and paint 2 or 3 coats.

Years ago I installed a new exhaust system on a daily driver pickup truck. But before I did, I painted the pipes and muffler with 2 coats of aluminum stove pipe paint I had on the shelf and let them dry overnight.

10 years later the exhaust was good as new with NO rust. The front 3 feet were discolored by the heat but did not rust.

I do believe if you do not do any short trip or stop and go driving and you paint your exhaust it will last as long as a stainless steel system.

Drill a 1/8" hole in the lowest part of the muffler to let condensation drain off.

  5. I have mol***es dipped extractors and headers in the past, and then painted them with a high temp black exhaust paint. They usually hold up pretty well to daily driver use. Its good as well because the mol***es removes any rust inside the pipes that you can't normally get to, and it gets covered in "soot" or whatever black carbon junk is inside exhaust pipes once you install them.

I've used Eastwoods Factory Gray High Temp Coating (part# 34105Z) with good results. Resists heat up to 1200F.

28A, What do you mean by mol***es dipped? Can I use regular mol***es from the grocery store?

  8. Exactly that mate, they are dipped in a 44 gallon drum of mol***es. 20l of mol***es, fill the rest with water.. stir away for a while until it mixes.. drop your rusty **** in it and pull it out and gurny it a week or so later and it'll be clean steel.
