S-10 clip in a 50 Shoebox

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Anarchy Choppers, May 16, 2008.

  1. Only comb it in the morning, Murray's keeps it in place. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on. This is the first pre 1969 car I have ever built. I am 39 years-old and have been working on cars and bikes all of my life.

And as for how I life my life dont worry about it. Live you own life. I think you are upset because your a fat little bald man who wishes he had the hiar for a Pomp.

  2. You know I really thought the whole idea about these types of web sites where to share info and talk about Kars, and to ask for help and ideas. We all have different styles and taste that is what makes this Nation one of the best in to world.

So what if you don't like like what I drive or how I build it. You are not paying for the build. It is not you car. It is mine and I will build it the way that I see best.

So if I want to keep the Flathead in it and spend $8 to $10K on the motor, remember, you are not paying for it.

What I like best about Kars (or Cars how ever you spell it) is building them. It keeps me busy and it is good quality time for my girlfriend, and our kids. You see this is a family project, and everyone in my home has a hand in it.

  4. Well just have to remember that everybody is a tough guy on the computer, but they dont have a pare big enough to say it to your face. I just take it with a grain of salt!

  5. Unionvillhaunt; Let me clear things up just a bit. My wife reminded me the car was a 1970 Nove. She drove the car for a year and a half before I boned it out. I did all the work on the car right here. That's the kind of work I've done for 40+ years. It's not narrowed, I'd remember doing it if it had been. It also has Disc brakes on it. I just went and measured the Car and the front end is 60 1/2" Flange to Flange. Nothing is done to the fenders and the tires don't rub and are 1 1/2" inside the fenders. If the car sat much lower I suppose they would rub on hard turn. Where the fender and rocker come together I have 6" of ground clearance. That is total stock nova suspension, No dropped spindles, No cut coils. Rides and drives grate.

Ronnie; I like your idea of the S 10. I also agree with your reason for doing the Graph. We all do things based on our own point of View. Let's keep it that way. My offer was just in case you didn't have parts. I've always said make it as good as a New car and keep the looks of the Old ones. I love Chrome.
I don't appriceate it when a guy looking for Good information get jumped by Morons with No intentions of helping. We all have 2 things, Opinyons are one of them, some choose to show the other since there Opinyon really don't matter. You handled it well.
Looking forward to seeing progress on your Car.

  6. Thanks for your reply. I knew you where trying to help and that means a lot. I did not take it any other way. Your car looks great. I want her to ride and handle well. Once I get everything figured out I will post progress, as I document every build I do from start to finish for my own records. I have bee entertaining the idea of using the entire frame from a long wheel base S-10, as I heard it is a easy fit. But I still intend to keep the Flathead.

Awesome, well then prove me wrong and let's see the car come together! I don't get it, but it aint my car. It just came across as a 18 yr old who got 2 copies of Ol Skool RodZzzZz and is going to tell ppl how it is with "fattie" motors and blah blah rockasilly garbage. Good that its a family project, make it happen. It'll be a lot of fun. Not my car but $8k-$10k to go slow is good but less than $1k to lower it and modernize the front suspension being out of the question, well...I don't get it. And I daily'd a chopped 50 Merc when I was 21/22 or so. It was a cool sounding motor, but man that shit got old quick, especially on the NJ Turnpike before I had overdrive.

And no, a complete opposite of the guess. Tall (6'5), have hair, and 10 years younger than you! :D

Wow, Ive never seen a Nova that tucked under shoebox fenders. I didnt get the idea you did the work, my bad, thats why I started the thread. Obviously I wouldnt have if I knew you did it. It does have a subframe look, but not as obvious as others. Must ride like a dream. Very nicely done man, I wasn't trying to prove you wrong I hope you know, just a little learning on the subframe ideas. Never done one. Got any pics of the 50 Merc? My current 51 is in my avatar. Picture from today actually.

No easy bolt in Mustang II available for shoeboxes. The only ones I know of require a replacenent sub frame that welds in. They cost about $2000. and are available from JW Rod Garage, Fatman, Street Rod Engineering and probably others. I am deciding on an S10 or JW Rod Garage. The S10 has the advantage of an easy air bag set up.

i was going to clip my 51 with an s10 and actually bought the clip and diff but i had a change of heart and bought a king pin set from shoeboxford.com that worked really well. rebuilt the pin on the outer end of arms and bought the eci brake conversion using my s10 brake parts. threw some aerostar spings in it and boltes it together. not done yet but it should be decent when its road worthy. i think i am @400 so far but i do want to go volvo for a steering box. good luck

Good luck on the Volvo box. From what I understand from Brickster and Johnny1290's techs, its alot more involved than it seems. That was my plan for sometime and I broke down and am going with the S10.

  11. I have decided not to clip the front end. I am keeping the Flathead so most kits wont work with that.

Going with drop spindels instead in the front, should give me all the drop I need. I just recently got the notch kit istalled and getting ready to do the 4-link. A little at a time.

Is there a big difference between the newer or older S-10s? I am thinking about putting one on a 1940 LaSalle w/ the Cadillac 500 motor. Center wheel to center wheel is 56.5 inches and I think the S-10s are 56 inches so I think it would be a good fit. Also bagging wil be easier.

    This sound right?

Someone on here did the flip the upright deal, it gets the car low but you need a torch to do it. I have no torch and have never done it, but seems like the way to go. U can also drop the lower control arm spring pocket (the lower plate) its held in by 6 rivets per side.
