I need some information, my friend is at pick-n-pull right now looking at a early 90's s10 4 wheel drive disc brake rear end. Will this work in his 58 edsel? He did not bring a tape measure and wants to make sure it is narrower then the edsel rear, as he is running some reverse wheels, any information help?????? He doesen't want to leave and drive the 2 hour trip home and back, afraid someone will get the rear end as there is a sale today. Thanks

Tell him to smell the roses and leave the 9 inch in his barge.disc brake coversions are cheap and easy as are offset rims. The car doesn't need to become an ABORTION Edsel. take this idiot off your friends list 'cause it might be catching.

i completely understand what your saying. he thought he would be saving some money by swapping the rear end so he could run some 7 inch reverse wheels.

he got the rear end out right when i called him back and convinced him not to put it in the edsel, i will end up with the rear end for what he paid $150. any other ideas for him wanting to run the deep wheels? maybe another ford inch narrower then his stock edsel?

!977 to 1981 Granada or Linc Versales is 58". His Edsel rear is 60". The 4X4 S-10 is about 59". His best bet is likely a late model 8.8 from an Explorer, disc brakes, 31 spline axles, and most have limited slip.

Why doesn't he just get wheels with the correct offset?

Because he wants to do $1000.00 or so worth of work to save the $200.00 it would cost to buy the right wheels.

If the S-10 rear he's pulling has disc brakes it maybe on a SR-2 offroad package truck. If so it's a posi unit and wider than standard S-10 rears. IIRC it's also got a little lower ratio to make up for the bigger tires they put on that package.

Wikipedia has a wiki on that option package with more info if he's interested.

I'd offer to measure my truck's rear but #1 son has his till Tuesday.

Realistically, its better this way. The idiot can end up with a pos s-10 rear-end in his edsel, and it will free up a hard to find smooth-back 9" housing for a sixties rod project...

    I'll buy the 9" for $200.

  16. Anything S-10 under any old Ford = Gay.

  17. Let me know when the "junk" rearend comes out from under that Edsel. I have a shipping connection and would like to have another piece of junk to match the rest of my junk. Best low dollar offered for just old junk because all hotrodders really hate to use any Edsel parts for any other kind of build.
And to think the folks that build many of the aftermarket wheels are within California?

Tell your friend to be sure and pick up the front axle also. Then you'll have the first 4-wheel drive Edsel in history! Cool!:D

  19. you can put the disk brakes from a crown vic on the small bearing 9" rear end (your edsel) and most 9" built before 1970

It is a bolt up kit the spacers can be bought on ebay for$58 and it is extremely easy I just done on one handed (left hand is in a cast)

As most know the 9" is one of the best rears out there and the early ford and edsel are some of the narrowest

    What's wrong with being happy?

  21. 93 Crown Vic front rotors, Moroso wheel stud, homemade pilot spacers for the rotors to center them, dirt car caliper brackets for the GM calipers with/without internal park brake mechanism. Correct machining, pressing, welding procedure to align caliper brackets.
You can do it cheaper than you can buy a kit if you don't need to rate your labor price while doing it for yourself.

I had an 8 3/4 Mopar in my Falcon. Should I be concerned about latent homo***ual tendencies? Just trying to get my head around parts choice being a potential gender bender. Or did the 4500 dominator on the FE negate any potential gender bending "issues"? Inquiring minds need to know.

And saved the Edsel for another day
or so, at least. I hope he sells the car
before he gets any more crackpot
ideas on how to "improve" it!! (Egads!
I'm still shaking my head over this one)
