    T5 question #532.

I finally got a T5 in a trade with Creeper Larry.
I am planning to put in behind a 59A flathead in my 32 RPU.

My question is about the sstock support rods that ran from the S10 bellhousing to the back of the trans. There are two that go to a lug on the bottom of the case and two that go to a bracket off of the rear mount.

I am using a fabricated 32 style K-member and dont really want to trim that big of a hole in it for the rods.

Can I get by without using them?

Is the trans stong enough to support only at the rear?

    Thanks,

    Neal...inCA

Neal, I'm not sure this is going to help you, but the T5 in my roadster is not suported at all. ( Worldclass out off a IROC)
I'm using '57 mounts on the SBC and the bellhousing, the tranny just bolts to the B/H with no exta support.
Your flatty is probably heavyer than a SBC and if you plan to use the T5 mount that would be a big gap to bridge.
is there any way you could put mounts on your bellhousing?

seems as i recall only the S-10 trannys have the rods, not the camaro/mustang, etc.

    strange.

i threw them away on my daily driver s-10 athe last clutch job.

Ray is correct. Those rods don't exist on Camaro T5's.

I put an S-10 T-5 in my '54 Cheyv truck and still have not built the rear tranny support.
I know guy that have never built the rear support and ran it for a lng time. I haven't seen the need to get in a hurry to build it...

also, fwiw...the cases are different for the support rods and no, the ones without do not have the mounting lug cast in that hangs down low, for the rods.

The support lug is one thing that I wanted to get rid of.

I am using a stock wishbone and I think that lug is about in the same place as the wishbone ball.

I think running bellhousing mounts and the tailshaft unsupported would be alot less stress on the case than with what I am doing. Flathead supported at the water pumps and the trans supported at the rear, but I think it has been done plenty of times. I guess I can try it.

Maybe I am answering my own question here, but I see that Corhuskers didn't use any of the support rods here...

What are you doing for clutch linkage?

I was planning to use early Ford pieces. I have 39 truck pedals and was planning to use a cross shaft out of a 40 and somehow piece it all together.

That part should not be any different than using an early Ford trans, as my Offy adapter uses the early Ford crossshaft. Or am I missing something?
