What heads are you running, Batten?
Edit: Just looked real close at your last picture…
    Yup, Batten!

Yeah, this will be a interesting project. No one cast a tunnel ram for a small block Olds. Much less with Battens. As soon as I get the other head in my hands. It will give me a idea where to cut and what will have to be made.

The Battens I'm using are off a friend's dragster. It was the fastest and quickest Olds powered vehicle in the world. We have several cracks to weld up and repair.
Something he didn't want to do for his dragster. So he donated them to my hotrod.
I am thankful!! These heads are like trying to find a honest politician!!!

I'm going to try my best to take y'all through the whole build process with the engine.
Will try on the body work. That will be a job I'm going to leave to someone else! I've done body work before,,,decided that there are way more talented people than me. Plus if I try to do it,,,, I'll spend the rest of my life on it.

Finished up the column mounts this evening. Hides nicely under the factory bezel. IMG_20220620_173716658.jpg IMG_20220620_173725174.jpg

We had to go last night, I can't take the heat anymore. But I love it. Nothing like one of the Fulton motors at about 10 grand ! Not for the faint of heart or wallet. I like your build as it looks like you plan to get right in the mix. I wish I was still able to.

I'm looking forward to getting this beast done! Hoping to get this Olds engine to somewhat compete with these guys.

Yeah , looking at what you are doing I believe you got it covered. I am looking forward to getting some side windows in my old Studebaker and making a lap or two. But reality is my health my prevent it but I am working towards that end. 6 in. angled milled SBC/Turbo 400w a brake/4.10 Dana 60 with a spool sitting on 002/003 Chrysler springs. It is pretty well set on kill for a street car. The only downside is it loves 110 gas at about 5 mpg. But it is a show stopper at a cruise in. I grew up watching IHRA modified production and mountain motor pro stock. You have to love the gassers staging up at about 8 grand with no rev. limiter ! if I only had a stick it would fit right in. They did pull some old death trap the other night. It looked like a Don Renfro in the making.

I do understand the health issues,, I was diagnosed with AS back in September. Since then I've lost about 30% of my flexibility and stay in constant pain.
I'm figuring this will be my last major build. I try to stay positive, and I've got a great bunch of buddies that try to take care of me!! Plus I've made more through the process of this build! I defintly been blessed with this build!

Loving the build, have enjoyed following along. Keep up the great progress and best of luck. Can't wait to see it pull the front wheels.

Every time I see a Henry J I wonder, "What'd that look like with a nice chop?"

I always wanted a J or Allstate! Just wouldn't want one with a Olds in it!

  21. Just went to my first SEGA race at Farmington. I had no idea it was such serious competition!

Looking forward to the rest of your build and seeing it go down the track in person sometime.

  23. When I was in high school, the neighbor bought a new '56 Olds. The idea of that car pulling the wheels up 2 feet at launch would have been as likely as a cucumber flying to Philadelphia. Now look where we are.

I would have to reread his post again but i believe he added a hole for clutch adjustment and that was where it failed

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll read up more on that when I get the chance. I originally had ordered a Lakewood, but no one had one in stock at the time. The QuickTime was the last one on the shelf from one of our parts suppliers.
I felt lucky to have found it at all. Parts of any kind are getting harder to find!

I do appreciate it, all the drag racing I've done in the past was with automatic cars. I would cut a case and put a ultra--bell on it. This is something new for me. I've learned alot so far on how not to build a car.. this could have been a whole lot lighter.
