i agree with zman the notch looks a lil unsafe, you could have got a notch made for an s10 and cut a little out of the trunk and redo the sheetmetal

He said that in the vid; that you could buy one, but he said he used what he had on hand... I agree though. Looks...'wimpy' for a notch.

A+ for taking the time to make a vid and post it though.

I gotta agree with zman, frame looks pretty weak at that point especially with your shock mount aft of the notch. Other than that you did one hell of a job, she looks very cool.:D

even using what's at hand, he could of doubled up for the notch, but it really doesn't look like it'll be sufficient.

Wow! Did you consider frame twist when you built that notch???

  13. Coulda saved a lot a dough by rolling on instead of spraying it.
Love how you left the rad in so you could pry against it to get the motor out.
Looks great, glad to see your out driving it.

what do you mean? build something that is unsafe and it's alright? I think not. That part of the frame needs to be beefed up, period.

    Great job!!

You may want to beef up the "C"......but....if the notch gives way then you'll have an awsome TAILDRAGGER!!!

    But I'd fix it.

The fact that you built it at that level with that amount of money speaks volumes.
    Great job!

Thanks for the vid......I think it's a cool way to go on a tight budget.....The car looks like it has some power, and would be fun to drive with good suspension and the 5 speed......after all the work you did, I think beefing up the notch would be no big deal for you with your skills.......Cool car......Have fun.....

I cant see the video (running an old OS on my computer temporarily) but from that screen shot the C looks scary, frame rails get their strength from sidewall height nearly exclusively, and that is pushing metals limits of liability to a dangerous level. I cant wait to see the vid tho, I want to see how its done and how it sits on the S10 frame, I know the subframes seem to fit really well. Best of luck with the project.

After reading your post, I realized the video didnt show the top of the C notch for anyone to see what it was made of. The top of the C Notch has TWO 1 inch pieces of thickwall box tubing welded together side by side. From the side it looks thin. I went outside, pulled the wheel off, and took a picture of it to clarify. it actually has MORE metal and strength then any C Notch you can buy. If i would have seen this view only from the side, i would have thought the same thing though.

Sorry, it still doesn't cut it. The structural strength side to side may be adequate. But it needs more structure height wise.

That explains so much. Why not do it right?

Thanks for the vid. Keep us informed on how the c-notch holds up. I am curious. I have a tendancy to over build.

I think your notch is fine, especially with the double thickness of tubing. Stock S-10 frames are pretty flimsy in that area, what you have is way stronger than stock. Bolting the frame to the body stiffens the whole thing up.

If that's going to break, it will be the S-10 frame part right next to your welds.

I agree completely. Just saw the video though, that little car is badass man! That is really using what you have and making a daily driver that wont kill you at the gas station.

As for the bodywork, yes, you shouldnt use JB weld, but its a four door shoebox that most likely nobody else was going to touch, who friggin cares. Just make it safe and enjoy it!
