I heard S10 4.3 pulleys fit on small block chevies. Is there anything to watch out for, like some bolts not lining up? What years should I look for in the yard? This is going on a 350 on my 50 Fleetline. Thanks, Pat
Many different variations on the 4.3...hard to say what might fit. The year of your engine, what you hope to accomplish with this combo, etc would help someone make a proper suggestion!!! Whats wrong with the V8 pulley setup anyway?
I got an engine without pulleys. The engine's a 73 and I'd probably use all the accy's except power steering. The reason I'm looking at 4.3s is the yard near me looks pretty thin as far as V8 trucks & vans are concerned and the camaros are all picked through.
My cousin and I put together a TBI injected 350 S10 Blazer 4x4 last summer...used the front parts from the original TBI 4.3 to make it all work. Bolted up fine IIRC. NO help to you though as your V8 engine is the earlier series... Best advice I can offer is to seek out the earliest form of 4.3. Later versions (like we used) had a bolt on aluminium structure and a belt instead of V pulleys. More than likely the pump is reverse rotation as well... My GUESS is that your friends are right. If the late stuff swapped over for us the earlier stuff should too. No actual experience that would help settle your mind though...sorry.
I recently picked up a 1991 S-10 Blazer with a 350 swapped into it (we bought it to poach the engine) and it had a 4.3. I thought the pulley/belts looked a little different and someone just recently told me that they were probably the V6 pulleys. So my ASS-umption is the 1991 4.3 pulleys will probably work.
the 4.3 uses the long water pump, you probably want to use a short water pump to clear the radiator....so the 4.3 isn't gonna help. You want late 50s to late 60s stuff.
The biggest difference you're gonna find is if you have a long or short water pump. I don't know which pump you got and which pump the 6 cylinder pullies are likely to work with. SBCs are as plentiful as ticks on a hound dawg trying to mate pullies from a 4.3 is like looking for a 20 dollar cure to a 10 cent problem. Just round up the right pullies to start with. Done deal.
look in the cabs and trunks.... even if the yard is picked over alot of people don't take the pullies anyway. I find it hard to believe that any operating samvage or junk yard doesn't have at least one set of SBC pulleys laying around.
Sent you a PM. I've got everything but the A/C compressor for sale, including pulleys. The P/S pump and water pump are new or very close to it. Youcould run A/C or add an idler pulley.
