ive used a tilt s10 steering column in my project. I didnt want to have to use the s10 wheel attached to it. does anyone know what other wheels would fit this column?

All of 'em. Grant adapters, look in speedway catalog or any catalog. You have a billion choices.

tilt steering wheels do not belong on traditional hot rods

Go to grant steering wheels and look in the adapter section and that will tell you what will fit. FWIW I think most 68-2000 will work that are RWD and non-airbagged.

Go with what Blacktop Graffiti and gwarren007 said as far as the Grant adapter and any Grant or other aftermarket wheel that fits.

Most GM wheels for a lot of years back will also fit the spline on the shaft but a lot of them won't work with the rest of the column and fit up right. Meaning they may not match up with the size of the S-10 Column or they may not work to cancel the turn signals or honk the horn.

  6. GM small shaft wheels are just about interchangable. The horn contacts differ the further back you go; drilling a new hole in the lock plate for the contact, or removing the lock plate entirely, may resolve most issues.

I had a little 80's Buick for a while for a beater that I had the seat way back to be comfortable in and put a '63 Buick wheel in it so I didn't have to reach out so far (I really wanted a '60 Olds wheel) and it went right on there. I cut the horn contact off the wheel and ran a piece of wire through which contacted the ring inside the column and it worked fine, but that really was a half-***ed solution.

If the wheel doesn't match up to the column just right, finding something metal and rounded you can trim down to cover the gap shouldn't be a big deal.

The turn signal cancel and all that is internal to the column and the steering wheel has zero to do with it.

  7. believe it or not, the bottom of a quart paint can is just the right size.

  8. Well there you go. As for not being traditional, not everyone can jam themselves around a fixed wheel. I'm sitting on a '68 Pontiac tilt for whatever gets built next, it's less ugly than the late GM ones, but even those can be cleaned up if you really want to.

Most any GM wheel from the 50's up will bolt on.
