my buddy has a 1994 s10 manual trans that he said he would give me. I have a 1950 Styleline 3 speed trans. question is will this trans work with the adaptor plates that are out there for sale? or do i have to buy a first gen s10 trans i am not to worried about the speedo btw.

it "might" have an integrated bellhousing (still the SBC pattern) and wouldnt bolt up I think. shifter position might be too far back as well. look at it before investing in parts.

You might want to make sure it's a T-5 you've got in your hands. GM also used a Getrag-designed 5-speed transmission behind the 4 cylinder S10 and S15 trucks. It is designated NV1500, and is a bit of a weakling by comparison.

The T5 should be okay as long as it has the traditional Chevy bolt pattern. The shifter will be in the right location to be ahead of the seat in the car too. There are a couple of companies that make adaptors to bolt it to a Chevy six bell housing if that is wehat you are using. Knowing what engine this is hooked to would be a large part of the battle.

And I do hate to be one of "those guys" but search S10 T5 and you will easily spend the rest of the night reading about this swapm and get most of your answers answered.

I just finished putting one of these 92 T5's in my 63 Chevy II wagon this weekend. The 92 4 cyl t5 was all I could find on short notice. I used the 63 nova bellhousing(had to enlarge the center hole by about .5 inch in dia.) then a little modifying to the t5 input shaft to match the original 3 speed shaft (shorten tube that the throwout bearing slides on, and lengthening spline grooves). Also used a 9 in 14 spline clutch disk for a 92 s10 with my nova flywheel and pressure plate. I'm glad it's done but I am also very glad I did the switch, the wagon just flys at top speed now.

    If it's a T5, it'll be a WC with Ford mounting pattern.
